Mopar expands Canadian drag racing support

Mopar to back Canada’s largest drag racing events in Edmonton, Grand Bend

NORWALK, Ohio (May 31, 2011) – Mopar® Canada, who has been the title sponsor for the IHRA’s Mopar Canadian Nitro Jam since inception back in 2000, has announced an important further expansion of their involvement within Canada’s drag racing scene.

The progressive company will supplement its sponsorship of the Grand Bend Motorplex event (July 16-17th) with new involvement in a title sponsorship role for the IHRA’s Mopar Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals at Edmonton’s Castrol Raceway (June 24-27th).

“During our decade with Grand Bend we saw that as a huge success and we were very happy with the response,” said Jim Kiritsis, Head of Mopar, Chrysler Canada. “We felt what better way to improve on that then by adding expanded involvement with the Edmonton IHRA race.”

With the announcement, Mopar Canada has cemented its presence and support for Canada’s two largest annual drag racing event attractions.

“We’d like to think of it as a one-two punch for drag racing,” Kiritsis added. “The sport has been so important to the Mopar brand and our company roots are there. So it only makes sense that we continue and be identified as a solid part of the sport in Canada.”

Kiritsis confirmed that Mopar’s full display hauler, which was a very popular fan attraction during last year’s event in Edmonton, will again make the cross country trip to Alberta. Numerous special Chrysler brand vehicles, local high-performance Mopar cars and an extensive line-up of the latest parts and accessories from Mopar will be available for viewing.

Western Canada’s reputation for Mopar brand drag racing is already highly impressive and reputed, thus making Mopar’s new support for the Rocky Mountain nationals a very deserving and timely development. Expectations are that a large number of top-running Mopar cars will be entered for competition.
