PMRA competition rounds cut short for TMP's Cayuga Dragway opener

Elimination rounds in PMRA, Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and PBSS postponed to June 10-12 at Cayuga during track's Extreme Mayhem Nationals

CAYUGA, ONTARIO (May 22, 2011)  – While qualifying sessions were completed for the Victoria Day Weekend Challenge at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park, inclement weather postponed the elimination rounds in the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series.

This was the first event for all three drag race series for 2011, and series and track officials announced the remainder of the program will be held June 10-12 at Cayuga during the Extreme Mayhem Nationals.

The postponed elimination rounds will be held during this weekend, which also features the second event for the three series.

Bruce Boland, of Hamilton, Ontario, qualified number one in the PMRA with a 5.953-second, 235.47-mph posting. The former champion debuted his new 1941 Willys, and was dialed in for the first race of 2011. Qualifying second was Vito Montesano of Maple, Ontario, with his 1968 Camaro, and third was Derek Hawker of Corbyville, Ontario, in his 1963 Corvette.

Elimination rounds for the postponed event and qualifying for second event will be blended together and run in unison on Saturday followed by final eliminations for the second event on Sunday. New and existing teams will have an opportunity to time trial their entries prior to this program. 

Leading the Top Dragster division of the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts is Peter Edwards, of Honeoye, New York, with a 6.298-second, 216.81-mph run. Rick Kopp of Burlington, Ontario qualified second, and Scott Wildgust of Wartburg, Ontario qualified third.

Defending champion Kevin Wicke, of Stratford, Ontario, took the number one spot in Top Sportsman with his 2006 Dodge Stratus on a 6.882-second, 200.35-mph run, followed by Darryl McMillen of Goderich, Ontario, and Spencer Hyde of Stratford, Ontario.

John Orfanidis, of Toronto, Ontario, qualified number one in the PBSS presented by Wiseco Performance Products Pro Bike side with a 7.837-second, 171.36-mph effort on his Suzuki GSX-R, followed by Dan Cryderman of Thamesville, Ontario, and Randy Hope of London, Ontario.

Taking the number one qualifier in the PBSS Pro Sled division was Dave Marshall of Prescott, Ontario, running an 8.861-second,  164.41-mph pass, with James Miller of Orillia, Ontario and Bill Anderson of Seaforth, Ontario rounding out the top three.

The Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA), www.PMRA.ca, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts, www.Quick32.ca and the Bike & Sled Series (PBSS), www.PBSS.ca are headlining the Extreme Mayhem Nationals event, which will include Jet Dragsters and weekend camping.

Final eliminations for the Extreme Mayhem Nationals begin with round one in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series at 11:15 a.m., followed by round one in the PMRA and round one in the PBSS at 1:00 p.m.
