US 131 Motorsports Park next stop for three drag race series

PMRA, Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and PBSS to race at famous Michigan track June 8-9

CAYUGA, ONTARIO – (May 25, 2012) – The next event for the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series presented by Wiseco Performance Products will be the Summer Showdown at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin Michigan.

This will be the second event for all three drag racing series this year, and the first time at the storied track in southwestern Michigan between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.

"We're very excited to be going to Martin," said Bruce Mehlenbacher, Director of Operations of all three series. "We look forward to racing at this great facility."

Constructed in 1962 as Martin Dragway, US 131 Motorsports Park will celebrate its 50th year of operation this season. It has been the host to many major racing events, including IHRA and ADRL national events. After a $14 million makeover in 2002, this facility is second to none for racers and fans alike.

Started late in 2004, the PMRA held its first race in the spring of 2005, and has grown in stature since. With several events each season at tracks in Ontario, Quebec, New York State, and now Michigan, the PMRA presents the  best in Pro Modified racing, with elapsed times under six seconds and speeds of 240 mph in the quarter mile. With a diverse range of body styles and over 3000 horsepower, these cars offer speed and excitement.

Now in its fourth season, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series is comprised of a 16-car Top Dragster field and a 16-car Top Sportsman field. The fields go through their separate  eliminations using a Sportsman-style dial-in handicap, and the top eliminator from each side matches up for a final which declares the event winner. The cars range from normally-aspirated to nitrous injected to turbocharged to supercharged, and the key to success is consistency and staying under your dial-in. Speeds over 200 mph in under seven seconds are common in the this series.

Started in 2011, the Pro Bike & Sled Series also runs under a Sportsman tree with racers dialing in. The series is comprised of Pro Bike and Pro Sled machines, and times are usually in the sub eight-second range at speeds in the 150 mph range.

The PMRA, Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and PBSS will take to the track June 8-9, with qualifying sessions Friday June 8, and eliminations scheduled for Saturday June 9. The Summer Showdown is one of several events this year which features these three popular series offering an exciting, varied, and colorful drag racing program.
