Wichita Raceway Park becomes 10th new track to join IHRA

Racers overwhelmingly in support of move to IHRA

Norwalk, Ohio, December 29, 2010 – The International Hot Rod Association is pleased to announce the signing of Wichita Raceway Park as the latest track to join the sanctioning body and its family of member tracks.

With the addition of the Texas facility, the IHRA has added nearly a dozen tracks over the past nine months and has seen its member track list blossom to nearly 100 strong with even more growth on the horizon. Wichita Raceway Park also becomes the 12th different Texas facility to join the IHRA, pushing the Lone Star State past North Carolina as the state with the most IHRA member tracks.

"We are thrilled to welcome Wichita Raceway Park to the ever-expanding list of IHRA member tracks," said Frank Kohutek, Director of IHRA Divisions 2 and 4. "It seems that as the word continues to spread of the incredible programs in place at the IHRA for sportsman racers, the track list just continues to grow and grow and we are proud to welcome another facility to this great organization."

Wichita Raceway Park joins the IHRA after an influx of racer support to make the move. When track officials learned of the racers wishes, they gave the competitors a chance to voice their opinion and when the final tally was made Wichita officials found that its racers were overwhelming in support of the move to IHRA.

"We are definitely excited to join the IHRA. It was a racers decision and, while we definitely preferred the IHRA, it was up to the racers to make that call," said track manager Bee Godwin. "And when the final votes were tallied we saw that our racers were overwhelming in support of the move and I am glad for it. I have had nothing but positive dealings with the IHRA and I think the move will prove a great decision for the track and the racers."

Wichita Raceway Park is a facility that has been a part of the Texas landscape for many years and has developed a solid racing program during that span. Featuring an excellent 1/8 mile racing surface with plenty of shutdown and an all-concrete pit area, Wichita Raceway Park is a great addition to the IHRA family. The track runs from March through October and stays very busy during the spring and fall and now, with the addition of IHRA and its numerous sportsman programs, should continue to grow even more over the coming years.

"This is a great partnership and one that I am looking forward to growing. We couldn't be more excited," Godwin said.
