Barwa Racing’s Smith Sets Sights On Another Title In New Pro Extreme Camaro

O'FALLON, MO (November 17, 2010) – Von Smith is fresh off of one championship.

But the talented Pro Modified driver already has his sights sets on another championship, this time on overseas soil.

Smith, crew chief and the Barwa Racing team is set to compete for a championship in the Pro Extreme class of the Arabian Drag Racing League, which starts on Dec. 2-3 in the country of Qatar.

The quest will be done in a new 1968 Pro Extreme Camaro that is sure to turn heads. It was recently finished by Tim McAmis Race Cars and the sparkling finished product will debut in Qatar.

This title chase comes just a week after Smith and his team celebrated a Get Screened America NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series title.

Just for a moment, Smith reflected on a spectacular season that included consistent runs in the 5-second range at more than 240 miles per hour.

"I have to give credit where it's due, and from start to finish this Barwa Racing team has given me an incredible race car," Smith said. "We had a few trials and tribulations to deal with throughout the season, but this team's commitment never waivered.

"We couldn't be happier that we were able to deliver a world championship to Sheikh Khalid for Al-Anabi Racing, the people of Qatar, and Barwa. We couldn't do this without them."

The new Pro Extreme car is sure to impress everyone in Qatar.

Among the standout features of the car is an extravagant paint design by SD Enterprises, which features a mural of the city of Qatar on each side of the car.

The appealing paint design isn't the only noteworthy aspect of the car, either.

The '68 Camaro is the first of its kind to feature the innovative and exciting TMRC billet aluminum housing.

Sheikh Khalid Al-Thani, Smith, Howard Moon Racing and Barwa Racing are excited to debut all of the new aspects of the Camaro as well.

The car has already been delivered to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and is slated to board a plane to Qatar on Monday. The talented Smith will arrive in the racing-hungry country shortly thereafter, ready to tackle the eight-race Arabian Drag Racing League schedule.

Racing will take on place on three consecutive weeks in December (Dec. 2-3, 9-10, 16-17) and a two-race slate in January (Jan. 6-7, 13-14) before the season concludes with what will be a memorable three-race finish in February (Feb. 3-4, 10-11, 17-18).

With several drivers from the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) competing in the Pro Extreme class, as well as a host of other top-notch competitors, there will be significant challenges for Smith and his PX team.

But, as he's already proven with the NHRA GSA Pro Mod Championship in 2010, Smith will be prepared and ready for the challenge.

With his new '68 Camaro set to debut in Qatar as well, Smith promises to be even more motivated to win.
