Scruggs Headlines Early Qualifiers at National Guard ADRL in Memphis
MILLINGTON, TN (May 22, 2009) — A brilliant, record-setting run by Pro Extreme star Jason Scruggs highlighted the opening round of qualifying today for National Guard ADRL Quarter-Max Memphis Drags II at Memphis Motorsports Park. Scruggs covered the Memphis eighth mile in an incredible 3.66 seconds at 207.43 miles per hour with his supercharged ’68 Camaro, making it the quickest and fastest pass in history by a full-bodied drag racing car.
“To be honest, I feel very fortunate,” the cotton farmer and businessman from Saltillo, Mississippi said. “I knew it was on a good pass, but it surprised me just how good it was. Everything had to come together just about perfect for that to happen.”
Also taking qualifying leads into Saturday are Maryland's Jim Halsey in Pro Nitrous, also in a ’68 Camaro, Jeff Naiser in Extreme 10.5 with his turbocharged 2002 Grand Am, Broderick Jackson in Pro Extreme Motorcycle and New Yorker John Montecalvo in the National Guard ADRL’s new Extreme Pro Stock class.
Memphis Drags II action resumes at 10 a.m. Saturday and will include two more rounds of qualifying followed by four elimination rounds for 16-car/bike fields in each National Guard ADRL professional category.
