GRAND BEND, ONTARIO (August 14, 2012) – We had a great weekend. I'm still excited about it.

Dan Flanigan has reason to be excited. The Buffalo, New York racer won the Top Sportsman race in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts event at the recent Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals at the Grand Bend Motorplex.

Driving his NOCO Motorsports 2002 Pontiac Firebird with a nitrous-assisted 665-cubic inch Jan-Cen Racing engine, Flanigan qualified ninth in the 16-car field and ran through the ladder to win the race, his first in Quick 32 Sportsman series competition.

We changed out the ignition box, Flanigan noted after his win, and the NOCO Motorsports car came to life. I've never gone 195 mph. That was a career best for me.

Flanigan posted a 7.13 at 194.93 mph in round one to defeat number one qualifier Kevin Wicke of Stratford, Ontario. He then eliminated Gerry Hishon of Sebringville, Ontario with his 1941 Willys in round two, took out Paul Martin of Breslau, Ontario with his 1957 Chevy in round three, and met up with Dan Aitken Jr of Belle River, Ontario in the final.

Flanigan got a small jump on Aitken, who qualified number 10 in his 1995 Mustang, and took the race with a 7.220 at 193.79 mph over Aitken's 7.271, 162.36 mph.

After the race, Flanigan thanked his sponsorship and crew for their part in the victory.

I have to thank my sponsor NOCO Energy Corp. for its involvement, he said. They have been with us all the way.

I also have to thank the crew for their efforts as well, he continued. Sam Christian as crew chief, and Jim Flanigan, John Fletcher, Mary Lisa, Molly and Audrey Flanigan for their help.

Flangian also noted he was impressed with the other Quick 32 Sportsman Series racers at the Grand Bend event, and the encouragement he received from them.

This is a really special group, he said. I'm glad to be part of it.
