NHRA NEWS: ESPN CAMERAS TO CATCH ALL THE DRAMA OF NHRA MELLO YELLO DRAG RACING DURING LIVE TELECAST

GLENDORA, Calif. (April 26, 2013) –  This weekend, NHRA fans will be treated to live coverage from the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA SpringNationals presented by Super Start Batteries and the team at ESPN will be providing wall-to-wall coverage for the fans watching at home.

ESPN2’s exclusive weekend coverage from Royal Purple Raceway near Houston will begin with a live show on Saturday, April 27 from 3-5 p.m. (ET), showcasing the final round of qualifying from the event. On Sunday, ESPN2’s race day telecast will begin at 2 p.m. (ET). Highlighting the three-hour telecast will be live coverage of both semifinal and final rounds from the event. 


ESPN2 will be closely following the teams from the time they exit the race track at the top end to their respective pit areas.  From there, cameras will roll in the pits as the teams’ service the world’s fastest and most powerful race vehicles in the scheduled 55 minutes, ultimately returning to the starting line for the final round.  It will surely represent the most exciting pit stop in all of motorsports.  The telecast also will include extended coverage in the four professional pits between the semi and final rounds, interviews with drivers and crew chiefs, multiple images on the screen following what action is happening where in each of the pits and on the track.

This represents one of the first times in the 13-year exclusive relationship between NHRA and ESPN that a commitment has been made to provide live coverage for both Saturday qualifying and Sunday’s elimination rounds.   It is a step the world’s largest motorsports sanctioning body hopes will lead to more future live telecasts of the fastest, most powerful form of motorsports in the world.
