IHRA Rocky Mountain Nationals celebrate 10 years in Edmonton with record lineup, full weekend of racing

MOPAR Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals return to Castrol Raceway July 6-8

EDMONTON, Alberta (June 26, 2012) – In June of 2003 the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) ventured into western Canada for the very first time with the inaugural Rocky Mountain Nationals at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton.

And what a showing it was.

The experimental venture proved to be one of the most successful inaugural events in the history of the sanctioning body with thousands of diehard fans watching racers from five Provinces and 22 states take to the track in what would prove one of the most important race weekends in IHRA history.

The MOPAR Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals is the IHRA and Canada's biggest drag race

Today, the event now known as the MOPAR Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals has grown into the largest event on the IHRA calendar and the biggest drag race in all of Canada. And in 2012 Castrol Raceway and the IHRA will celebrate the 10th running of the Rocky Mountain Nationals with a show unlike any before featuring nearly every class to ever run at this historical event spread over three full days July 6-8 at the famed Edmonton facility.

The 10 year celebration will feature nearly two dozen different classes – a record for this event and one of the most diverse racing lineups found anywhere in the world. Canada's largest drag race will feature nearly every class to ever grace the Rocky Mountain Nationals including eight pro classes, five jets, 10 sportsman classes and a unique finale between the world famous Grave Digger monster truck taking on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.

Among the pro classes will be four nitro-burning classes including the return of 320 mph Top Fuel Dragsters and a open field in AMSOIL Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car for only the second time in IHRA history. The nitro lineup will also include an open field in Nitro Harley and a unique lineup of classic Nostalgia Fuel Altereds.

The remaining pro lineup will include the Rocky Mountain Nostalgia Funny Car class, a staple of the Edmonton event, Alcohol Funny Car, Alcohol Dragster and Pro Mod.
