Consistency and good starts give Darrin Grubb the win at Xtreme Mayhem Nationals at TMP's Cayuga Dragway

Top Sportsman entry bests field in Quick 32 Sportsman Series action

CAYUGA, ONTARIO (June 15, 2011) – A strong consistent race car gave Darrin Grubb and the Grubb Racing Team a victory in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts event at TMP's Cayuga Dragway June 10-12.

"This has been an awesome day," noted Grubb, driver of the Top Sportsman 2004 Chevy Cavalier, after the race. "Everything worked perfect."

Grubb eliminated Top Dragster driver Michael Hinbest in the final of the event with a 7.22-second, 194.86 mph run over Hinbest's 6.361-second, 212.46 mph effort. Working with a Sportsman-style, dial-in race format, Grubb, from Pine River, Ontario, got a big jump on Hinbest of Orangeville, Ontario and his Bos Top Dragster in the final, and the
supercharged dragster of Hinbest could not catch the Cavalier at the top end.

The Quick 32 Sportsman Series is comprised of Top Dragster and Top Sportsman cars. The competitors race against each other in their respective divisions, then the finalist from each side is paired for an event final.

The win was Grubb's second in Quick 32 Sportsman Series racing.

Grubb qualified sixth in the 16-car field, which was led by Darryl McMillen of Goderich, Ontario. Grubb, running with great consistency, recorded runs of 7.204, 7.229, 7.274, and 7.278 on a 7.20 dial-in, and eliminated Phil Sampson of Granton, Ontario in the final Top Sportsman run.

Hinbest, who qualified number three on the Top Dragster side behind Rick Kopp of Burlington, Ontario, and Peter Edwards of Honeoye, New York, , was also consistent in his round-by-round eliminations, shutting down Tony Positano of Toronto, Ontario in the final division round.

Semi-final finishes in the Top Sportsman side went to Ben Grevers of Paris, Ontario, and Dan Flanigan of Buffalo, New York. Jeff Moser of Waterloo, Ontario and Bill Moloughney of Shawville, Quebec were semi-finalists in Top Dragster.

While Grubb thanked his brother Marvin and Mike Dennis for their efforts, along with the help of Par Racing, Ideal Supply, Hutch's Transmission, and Chris Duncan Race Cars, he pointed out he was on the money with his starts during the event.

"I want to thank everyone for helping me win," he noted. "And I was good on the tree today as well."  Grubb had reaction times of .005, .016, .003, .001, and .019.

"All fell into place," he added about his win. "The three-hour trip home will be a lot more pleasant now."
