National Guard ADRL Autograph Zone ‘Very Cool’ for Drivers and Fans
O’FALLON, MO (Aug. 4, 2009) — Pro Nitrous driver Tim Savell looked out at close to 200 National Guard ADRL fans waiting in line during the recently completed ADRL NATIONALGUARD.com U.S. Drags II at Virginia Motorsports Park and it warmed his heart. Not because the thermometer was reading above 95 degrees, but because knowing those fans would wait in that heat for his autograph helped ease the sting of not qualifying to race in eliminations.
“The DNQ kind of bummed me out,” Savell admitted following his first appearance in the new National Guard ADRL Autograph Zone. “But I went over there and it really perked me up.”
Savell, one third of the Bankston Boyz Pro Nitrous driving team, was joined in the Autograph Zone by teammates Stan Allen and John DeFlorian Jr., as well as National Guard Pro Extreme drivers Joshua Hernandez and Travis Swearingen, and Mike “Hojo” Hojnacki, pilot of the “Police Interceptor” jet car that closes out each day of National Guard ADRL action.
Hernandez called the Autograph Zone “another part of the well-oiled machine” that the National Guard ADRL becomes on race weekends.
“It’s really nice for us to go into a set-up like that. Having the support of the sanctioning body makes it easy for us, but also makes it easy for the fans to meet some drivers, get a few autographs and take a little piece of the ADRL home with them,” Hernandez said. “On a very hot day it was a very cool thing for all of us to do.”
Savell also commented on how well-organized the Autograph Zone appeared and encouraged fellow National Guard ADRL competitors to take the time to experience it first-hand.
“The girls who run it made it fun and easy for us and honestly, the hour we were there just flew by. In all seriousness, it was probably one of the best hours of my whole weekend there (at Virginia Motorsports Park),” Savell said. “I hope I get to do it again and would definitely recommend it to other ADRL drivers.”
National Guard ADRL competitors who may be interested in taking a turn in the National Guard ADRL Autograph Zone during the Hardee’s Gateway Drags II this coming weekend (Aug. 7-8), are encouraged to contact ADRL Director of Sales and Marketing Shawnna Reynolds at shawnna@ADRL.us or by phone at (636) 696-6408.
