Bruce Boland on a roll, wins third PMRA event for 2009
In other racing at the Grand Bend Motorplex, Michael Kalin takes Quick 32 Sportsman Series title
during Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals presented by Ideal Supply & NAPA Auto Parts
GRAND BEND, ONTARIO (August 16, 2009) – Bruce Boland, the reigning, and two-time Pro Modified Racing Association Champion continues to dominate the PMRA series, as the Hamilton, Ontario-based racer won the PMRA event during the Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals presented by Ideal Supply & NAPA Auto Parts Sunday in Grand Bend, Ontario.
Driving the B&B Racing 1967 Chevy Nova, Boland eliminated Ike Maier of Schomberg, Ontario in the final with a 4.10-second, 177.90-mph winning pass over Maier’s 4.203-second, 165.65-mph run.
Boland paced the field in the fourth event of the 2009 PMRA tour, qualifying number one with a 4.092-second, 181.15-mph pass. Boland took out number five qualifier Jason Kalso of Clarkston, Michigan, in his 1970 Barracuda in the semi-final, and defeated Jack Grainy of North Tonawanda, New York in the opening round.
Maier eliminated Mark Nielsen of Brantford, Ontario in his semi-final, and Dave Earhart of Strathroy, Ontario, in the first round.
Others making the elimination rounds were Tim Martin of Barrie, Ontario, defeated by Kalso, and Jeff Roth of Kitchener, Ontario, eliminated by Nielsen.
Boland leads the Championship Point Award Series standings with 1097, while Mark Nielsen is next with 1030. Dave Earhart has 981 points, as does Jason Kalso, for a third-place tie. Joe Boniferro of Niagara Falls, Ontario is fifth with 967 points, and Jeff Roth is in sixth with 960 points and rounding out the top ten is Eric Latino, Ike Maier,Jack Grainy and Tony Piselli.
There was a large car count for the third round of the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts, with 20 Top Dragsters and 18 Top Sportsman cars doing battle over the weekend. And at the end of the day, Michael Kalin drove his dragster to an overall Quick 32 Sportsman Series win over the Top Sportsman entry of Dan Aitken Jr of Belle River, Ontario. Kalin ran a winning 4.818-second pass over Aitken’s 4.818.
The Top Dragster final was between Kalin of Youngstown, New York, and John Wiema of Stratford, Ontario, and Kalin took the victory. Kalin ran a 4.742-second pass over Weima’s 4.654. In the semis, Kalin defeated Buddy Forrest of Rochester, New York, Tony Positano of Toronto, Ontario, and number one qualifier Todd Hope of Norwich, Ontario. Weima eliminated Jamie Bridge of Napanee, Ontario, Scott Jahren of Tonawanda, New York, and Jim Rubino of Buffalo, New York.
Aitken took the Top Sportsman final with a solo pass, as opponent Carl Spiering of Jordan Station, Ontario, could not make the final round. Spiering, who qualified number one in the 16-car field, bested Paul Martin of Breslau, Ontario, Tom Stuart of Blenheim, Ontario and Tibor Bogar of Dorchester, Ontario. Aitken eliminated Darren Grubb of Pine River, Ontario, Ben Grevers of Paris, Ontario, and Gerry Hishon of Sebringville, Ontario.
Darrin Grubb leads the Quick 32 Sportsman Series Championship Point Award Series standings with 628, and Michael Kalin in second with 612 points. In third is Jamie Bridge with 609 points, fourth is Tim Martin with 587 points, and Carl Spiering is fifth with 579 points.
Spencer Hyde, Kevin Wicke, T.J. Schippling, Wagg & Bell, Mitch Elliott, Todd Hope, Lisa Spiering, Michael Hinbest, Scott Wildgust, Melanie Simmons, Darryl McMillen and James Lichty round out the top 17 teams.
