Nitro Thunder
Kaysville, Utah: Jack Harris Racing and his Nitro Thunder team can look back on the 2008 drag racing season with much satisfaction and look forward to 2009 with high anticipation. Beginning with a record breaking performance at the 50th March Meet in Bakersfield and ending with a high exposure appearance at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Harris' sponsors and fans got a full dose of the worlds quickest and fastest front engine Top Fuel Dragster - Nitro Thunder, and the newest addition to the camp, a state-of-the-art Pontiac Firebird Nostalgia Nitro Funny Car.

The season started with Brett Harris on sabbatical and Jack Harris in the seat of the Top Fuel car at the inaugural NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series event, the March Meet, at Famoso Raceway. After qualifying #3 with a 5.79 Harris entered eliminations as "one of the favorites", not the favorite. All that changed when, in round two, "Big Red" stopped the clocks with an astonishing 5.56 at 263 mph. The run took the wind out of the collective Top Fuel sails and left everyone in attendance awe struck. Prior to this the quickest time ever was a 5.63. Obviously the 5.568 was the first leg of a new national record. In the next round Harris put all the doubters to rest with a 5.578 at just 249.51 that backed up the 5.568 for a new AAFD E.T. World Record. Icing on the cake - Harris beat Thompson in the final for his 3rd March Meet crown. It also installed Harris as the second member of the exclusive PR Motorsports 5.60 Club.

Nitro Thunder's next outing was the 37th Boise Ignitor at Firebird Raceway and Jack went there to reclaim his track record. He did, blitzing the track record with a booming 5.69 elapsed time. Harris then went on to win the event - his second in a row. Back in Kaysville it was decided to park the Top Fuel car and concentrate on the new Funny Car which they did the better part of the summer.

In August, Brett Harris came out of his 1 year retirement to once again drive the Top Fuel dragster. His debut was Nitro Nationals at Rocky Mountain Raceway in Utah where he set both ends of the track record and won the event. Next was the 37th Boise Nightfire Nationals where he went to the semi-finals losing the first side by side 260 MPH race in NTF history. Jack Harris went to the second round in the Nitro Thunder Funny Car.

Brett Harris wrapped up the season on a high note running low ET and Top Speed - 5.69 at 261 on his way to a runner-up finish at the 17th Annual California Hot Rod Reunion. Favored to win the final, the engine broke on the burnout leaving Rick White a single for the win. His 5.69 made Brett the third member of the PR Motorsports 5.60 Club.

Jack Harris Racing would like to sincerely thank all their loyal fans and committed sponsors for making the 2008 season one for the record books. In 2009 you can all look forward to a full commitment chase for the NHRA Heritage Series Top Fuel Championship by Brett Harris and improved performance and more appearances by Jack Harris in the Nitro Funny Car.

On behalf of the entire team we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year. Hope to see you all at the 2009 March Meet.
