Spokane Raceway on the Block
If you have not heard already, it is with a sad heart that I have to report that Spokane Raceway Park is going up for public auction. My take on the whole thing is that the Casino will buy the land and bulldoze everything. We have probably seen the last car go down the quarter mile here in Spokane. We can always hope someone will buy the facility and do the work Orville Moe never did and make it a truly viable raceway, but that is probably not going to happen.

I had the pleasure to be with the Alexander/Omlin Top fuel team in 2005 when they were #1 qualifier in the last AHRA world finals, and was there in 2006 when they were the first and only car to run in the fours in Spokane. Great times. Spokane has always been a place where the "little guy" top fuel rails and funny cars ran, always for the love of the sport and not for the little money they received (although every dollar they did get was appreciated and very needed I am sure).

For anyone who wants more info on the sale of the raceway, go to www.spokaneraceway.net for contact information. Please, someone buy this facility and rehabilitate it. I would even volunteer my labor to help bring it back. I am sure that many in the drag racing community here would do the same.

It was good while it lasted.

Sincerely, Greg Harvey
