Spokane to return to normal operation
Northwest drag racing veteran Herman Marchetti dropped us a line to announce that Spokane Raceway Park will resume normal drag racing next weekend; this weekend was rained out. Last Wednesday, Herman received a call from Jim Tice, Jr., who is now the operator of the track as appointed by the receiver in control of the track books. Tice asked Marchetti if he was interested in helping the track get through the rest of the summer. Herman said yes and he will be returning to Spokane next weekend as the official starter for their Saturday night programs. It is unknown at this time if Spokane will be running any nitro events, although two events are still on the schedule. Herman noted that he is hoping that they will proceed as planned and that he may be trained to launch the big guns by the end of the year. Marchetti worked at the track for three years and had the opportunity to run prestage and stand between the nitro cars when they left. He said, “If you ever get the chance take it. The view is unbelievable and the rush lasts for days!” Herman noted that if anyone associated with the online drag racing groups is going to be in the neighborhood, get in touch with him to hook up. Herman is hoping for good weather next weekend so he can resume some local friendships that he’s missed for the last two years. We at draglist.com are glad to see this great track back up and on its way to respectability again.
