October 6: Mickey Thompson, driving the four-engined four-wheel drive (two engines powering the front wheels and two the rears) Challenger, sets 16 world and United States speed records on the Bonneville Salt Flats (1959). October 7: Larry "Spiderman" McBride becomes the first Top Fuel Motorcycle racer to run a sub-6.5 second quartermile with an elapse time of 6.49 seconds at Atco, New Jersey, USA (1991).
