For the first time, the wife of a pioneering racer has been interviewed. Joan Gwynn (wife of Jerry and mother of Darryl) provided a perspective of the lives (and sacrifices) of wives and mothers of racers. “This is an area which we had not considered until recently,” said Traci Hrudka, Chairman of the Quarter Mile Foundation. “For many successful racers, the support of their wives was crucial to their careers. Many of the wives were the team manager and kept the team’s finances and travel schedules in order, plus raise a family. We can foresee several other wives being a part of the documentary, which will present another facet of the sport to the PROJECT 1320 documentary’s audience.”
The Foundation was able to expand the interviews of Don Garlits and Ed Pink, adding to their earlier interviews, which were cut short by prior commitments before the interviews were completed.
With the addition of the most recent group of interviews at Pomona, Calif. and Gainesville, Fla., the Foundation now has 125 interviews “in the can.”
