NORWALK, Ohio (March 16, 2012)
– The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) is pleased to welcome
The Ubly Dragway in Ubly, Mich. to the IHRA family of member tracks.
Under
the direction of the Janowiak family since 1961, The Ubly Dragway has
hosted racers for over 60 years and with the recent renovations to the
track and facilities, the Janowiak family hopes to return the track to
its glory days as it gears up for another exciting season of racing in
2012.
"Over
the past five years it has been hard work, dedication and a ton of
effort to get the track back to the way it was," said Nick Janowiak.
"Every year the track has some big hitters come out and race for the
points championship so if racers would like to come out and play we are
more than happy to welcome them to the family. The owners are more than
willing to help anyone with anything they might need. Everyone here is
one big family and we look forward to keeping it that way as we join up
with the IHRA."
The Ubly Dragway opened in 1961 and will be joining the IHRA in 2012
Built
in 1961 by Arthur "Red" Janowiak and taken over by Dennis Janowiak in
2007, the Janowiak family has been hard at work renovating the track
with new guardrails, new concessions and other updates to make the track
safer and a better place to race. The track is currently setup for
1/8th mile racing for all of the various classes that run at Ubly
including cars, trucks, bikes, dragsters and altereds, however the track
is often used to test on the 1/4 mile.
"It's
a great stride for the IHRA to have Ubly on board," said Jon O'Neal
Division Director. "The facility is a success story for running a
friendly yet fair family business and we're excited to be able to offer
Ubly racers a shot at becoming a world champion through the Summit
SuperSeries presented by AMSOIL and Moser. We'll be opening the doors to
the Division 5 Team Finals event to Ubly racers and it will be an
exciting day to offer the race to a new group of racers."
