BERTOZZI, MARTEL LEAD JEGS SPORTSNATIONALS WINNERS
BELLE ROSE, La. (March 18, 2012) – Five hundred racers in nine categories were narrowed done to nine champions today for the NHRA JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at No Problem Raceway.
Anthony Bertozzi took the win in the Suburban Chevrolet Top Dragster class with a run of 6.777 seconds at 186.92 mph. The Ashland, Va., racer held off Michelle Le Bleu, Lake Charles, La., who tripped the clocks at 206.32 mph while multi-national event winner Arnie Martel won in Comp Eliminator. Martel, Tewksbury, Mass., drove his ’07 GTO to a lap of 8.315 seconds as No. 1 qualifier Kevin Self, Caddo, Okla., left early with a red light start by three thousandths of a second.
Val Harmon won for the home state in Super Street and was joined by Kyle Olson in the Sportsman Motorcycle class presented by Harley Davidson. Harmon, Luling, La., clocked in at 10.918 seconds to beat Stephen Funderburk, New Iberia, La., in his ’71 Nova for his first NHRA national event win. Olson, Mooreland, La., covered the field and went 8.197 seconds at 150.30 mph for the win over Mike McCullah, Houston.
The Sunset RaceCraft Top Sportsman trophy will make its way back to Millington, Tenn., with TJ Tracey who knocked off Mark Buehring in 7.260 seconds at 175.50 mph in his ’04 Corvette. Buehring ran 7.007 in his ’07 Cobalt at 198.06 mph.
Other winners this weekend were Dillon Bontrager, Wylie, Texas, in Super Gas; Steve Mikus, Ashley, Mich., over Shawn Langdon in Super Comp; Mike Crutchfield, Montgomery, Ala., who beat David Rampy in Super Stock; and John Brimer, Burleson, Texas, in Stock defeating Wade Owens, Cape Girardeau, Mo.
NHRA South Central Division racers head to Texas Motorplex for their next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, April 20-22.
