Bruce Boland returning for 2012 PMRA drag racing season

Three-time PMRA champion boasts impressive Pro Modified career in 1941 Willys

HAMILTON, ONTARIO (March 21, 2012) – The most successful driver in the Pro Modified Racing Association is returning to competition for 2012, but it may be the last season of active racing for Bruce Boland.

This is definitely my last year, said Boland, a three-time PMRA champion. I made my wife a promise and I think it is time to look towards the future.

The driver of the B&B Racing 1941 Willys has had a stellar record in the PMRA. Since his first win in the fall of 2005, Boland tops the winner's circle list with nine victories in 37 races. He has raced several different cars over the years, and came within one point of winning his fourth title in 2011.

Every year we got better quality and faster cars, he said. The competition always gets stronger, and with some new teams such as Vito (Montesano) or Eric (Latino) or Jay (Santos) the series has progressed over the years.

For 2012, the B&B Racing Willys will once again be powered 526-cubic inch Brad Anderson (BAE) Supercharged Hemi with an ERD (Engine Research & Development)-tweaked PSI Supercharger screw blower and a Waterman fuel system with input from Jon Salemi of Resolution Racing Services. A Lenco three-speed sits behind the engine.

Boland qualified for all PMRA races in 2011, and won the first and final events of the year. He placed second in the 2011 Championship Point Award Series, a mere one point behind Montesano. He was the PMRA champ in 2007, 2008, and 2009. His best year to date was 2009 with four wins in six races.

Rob Cesario is crew chief for the team, and Willy Kerr, Dennis Veillette, Brad Short and Ron Pierce make up the rest of the effort. Sponsorship is provided by Backwoods Excavating & Float Service, Excel Motorsports, Pro Racing Fuels, NGK Spark Plugs, A&A Auto Parts, Viera Concrete Supplies and Double D Construction.

I'd like to thank my sponsors for their help, he said. We wouldn't be where we are without them.

Boland noted he plans no major changes to the car for 2012, adding the team will be out there trying to win races but enjoying themselves at the same time.

We're going to go out there and give it our best, he said. And more important, go out and have a good time.

The PMRA gets underway this year with the season-opening Victoria Day Weekend Challenge at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park May 18-20.
