VW's SET TO TAKE OVER THE TEXAS MOTORPLEX ON MAY 2 - Volkswagen Bug In Celebrates 25 years at the Texas Motorplex

ENNIS, Texas (April 5, 2010) – The more VWs, the better! The Texas Motorplex will play host to the 25th annual VW Bug In on May 2, and all VWs are invited. The track has added a new category for racing – Street Trophy Eliminator – that will open the racing possibilities for even more VWs this year. If there is a VW in the region, it has a place to race at the Motorplex on May 2 as there will be Pro Stock Eliminator, E.T. Bracket Eliminator, Show Car Drag class, Import Class and open time trails for race vehicles. The 25th anniversary VW Bug In will also start celebrating early, as the campgrounds will open at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 1 with a BBQ featuring free hot dogs and a DJ. There will be games for kids, special meal deals for families and more during Sunday's Bug In. "We are celebrating 25 years of racing at the Texas Motorplex and we have featured a VW event each of those 25 years," Texas Motorplex General Manager Gabrielle Stevenson said. "The VW Bug In is one of the most entertaining events of the year and this year will be even more special." Saturday May 1 Camping gates open at 6 p.m. DJ and Free Hot Dogs to first 200 people  Sunday May 2 - Bug In Gates open 8:00 a.m. Car Show Registration 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Time Trials 9:30 a.m. Eliminations  begin at 1:30 p.m. Car Show Awards  3:30p.m. - 4:30p.m. Swap Meet, Car Corral, Food & beverage concessions all day. General Admission: Adult: $15 Child (6-12) : $5 Children 5 & under are FREE Street Trophy Eliminator: $15 – Open to all VW’s through the muffler exhaust and D.O.T. tires. This class is open to water-cooled VW’s only. Trophies given to winner and runner-up. This is your chance to see how fast your VW will go, or just feel what it’s like to run down the drag strip. Pro Stock Eliminator: $100/100 percent payback – 4/10 Pro Tree. Runs on a sportsman ladder            E.T. Bracket Eliminator: $35 – Open to all cars with a 7.50 E.T. and up. Purse is based on a 32-car field.                 $1,000 Winner                 $500 Runner-up                 $100 Semi’s                 $30 Quarter’s      Show Car Drag Class: $10 – Open to car show participants. Cars must go through tech before parking in show area. Must run street tires with a 13.20 E.T. and up. Winner and Runner Up receive trophies. Import Class: $35 – Open to all street legal import bodied or powered vehicle. The Texas Motorplex was the first all-concrete stadium-style drag racing facility ever constructed. Built in 1986, The Texas Motorplex has been the place of many drag racing milestones and world record performances. The Billy Meyer-owned facility hosts a number of racing and car show events between March and November each year and also features the Champions Club – an 11,000 square-foot facility – that serves fully catered events throughout the year.
