Texas Motorplex is celebrating 25th anniversary throughout 2010 season
ENNIS, Texas (April 19, 2010) – The Texas Motorplex has kicked off the 2010 racing season as cars have already been blazing down the all-concrete quarter-mile track. This weekend, however, the action gets even quicker and faster – and it will stay that way for several weeks.
The Motorplex will play host to six different events in the next five weeks, starting with this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Divisional event. It’s the Division 4 season opener for drag racing in the region and will feature some of the best Top Alcohol Dragsters and Funny Cars.
The next month also will feature the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life (April 30), the 25th annual Bug In (May 2), the 30th anniversary season of the Super Chevy Show (May 21-23) and more.
Spectator gates open and time trials begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (April 23-25) for the NHRA Lucas Oil event. This is the first of five races in the South Central division and the seventh of 39 scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $560,000.
Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman qualify twice on Friday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and have two sessions on Saturday at noon and 3 p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car have one qualifying session on Friday at 4 p.m. and two on Saturday at 1 and 4 p.m. Eliminations begin Sunday at 9 a.m. with Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car running round 1 at 11 a.m.
Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Texas Motorplex are $15 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. A three-day ticket is $50. Children 6 to 15 years old are $5 Friday, $10 Saturday and $10 Sunday. Kids 5 and under are admitted free with a paid adult. Spectator parking is $5.
Once the drag racers have cleared the property, the Texas Motorplex will prepare for another powerful event, just held at a slower pace. The American Cancer Society will hold its annual Relay for Life 6 p.m. on Friday, April 30 through 6 a.m. Saturday, May 1.
Walkers will take over the track and make tracks for cancer research, remember those lost to cancer and to celebrate those who are battling and recovering from cancer.
“We are proud to host such an important and powerful event,” said Texas Motorplex owner, Billy Meyer. “We have Motorplex employees and friends who are currently battling cancer and a couple of friends of the facility that are tremendously strong survivors.
“This is an event we look forward to all year because it means so much to the community and it affects the lives of our friends, family members and neighbors.”
Once the walkers have celebrated the well-deserved closing honors, the track will then whip into action, preparing for another event.
The 25th annual VW Bug In will kick off with a BBQ and camping on May 1 before the event takes place at the Motorplex on May 2. There will be a Fast Friday session on May 14, and O’Reilly Bracket Series events May 15-16 before the track then turns to yet another milestone celebration – the Super Chevy Show series is celebrating its 30th anniversary of being the top show of one of the most popular automotive brands.
“It’s going to be an exciting few weeks at the Motorplex,” said Texas Motorplex General Manager, Gabrielle Stevenson. “We have several different events that will satisfy any entertainment craving. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate our 25th anniversary than by having a packed schedule – especially knowing they are some of the best events in the region.”

The Texas Motorplex was the first all-concrete stadium-style drag racing facility ever constructed. Built in 1986, The Texas Motorplex has been the place of many drag racing milestones and world record performances. The Billy Meyer-owned facility hosts a number of racing and car show events between March and November each year and also features the Champions Club – an 11,000 square-foot facility – that serves fully catered events throughout the year.
