The Inaugural NMRA Nitto Tire Peach State Nationals are complete!
March 26-28, 2010
The Nitto Tire Peach State Nationals are complete, albeit with a shortened schedule due to a poor Sunday forecast. Although this weekend's event was not a points race, which kept many of the regular racers away, it was still a successful event for the NMRA. There were over 150 show cars, plenty ofTrue Street hitters, and a great fan turnout.
With the limited classes that were run, we were able to squeeze everything into yesterday's festivities and allow our competitors to get a head start on the trip home.
Heads-up classes contested in this unique event included the Street Bandit class, which combined NMRA’sHot Street and Renegade classes into one, Steeda/Eibach Street Race, which consisted of NMRA Real Street players, and Olson's Performance Factory Street . In addition, Exedy/Trick Flow Mod Comp was a combination of the NMRA's Open Comp, Mod Muscle and Truck classes, and JDM Engineering Super Stang was contested as well. Also on the track (and the 30-mile tour) was Tremec True Street , presented by Muscle Mustang Magazine.
In the Street Bandit class, Alton Clements ran an 8.46 at 163.55 during qualifying to take the pole position. Eliminations consisted of Don Bowles eliminating Bart Tobener in the first round, while Clements had a single, which he used to test. Clements then went on to win in the final round over Don Bowles, in a wild meeting between the 2009 Champions of the two classes. He put an 8.54 on the board to Bowles' 8.61 to take home the trophy and cash.
Steeda/Eibach Street Race saw Tim Matherly qualify first with a 9.63 at 142.29. In eliminations, Paul Wiley defeated newcomer Monty Golden in the first round. Matherly then went on to defeat Wiley in the finals, 9.67 to 10.24.
The Olson'sPerformance Factory Street class had Jay Dold qualifying on the pole with an 11.10 at 120 MPH. He then went on to collect the win with an 11.04 over John Leslie Jr.'s 11.72 in the final round.
Fifteen cars showed up to compete in the Mod/Comp class, with Shane Williams taking the pole with a perfect .000 reaction time. In eliminations, Mark Young and Charlie McCulloch drove through the competition to meet up in the finals. There, Young would run on his dial with a 7 to eke out the win over McCulloch.
In JDM Engineering Super Stang, Brenspeed's Brent White took out teammate Kent Nine in the first round of competition before moving on to defeat 2009 class Champion Chris Parisi in the final round.
Bracket One action saw Willis Banks take the win over Shane Williams in the final round when Williams carded a -.003 redlight.
Bracket Two had Danny Towe take the win light over Brent Carver, running a 7.55 (1/8th mile) on a .53 dial, while Carver was a tenth off his dial after getting the holeshot.
