New power to propel Dordan Motorsports Top Dragster in upcoming season

Quick 32 Sportsman Series team gets ERD engine for 2012 drag race series

SHAKESPEARE, ONTARIO (February 22, 2012)  After a rookie season in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts, the Dordan Motorsports Top Dragster team decided to increase its odds of winning with a new engine to provide more go on the drag strip.

"Last year we were getting used to the car, but were always in the middle of the pack," said team driver Travis Gueguen. "We went to ERD (Engine Research & Development) and got a new engine for the car and are hoping to run in the 6.8-second range."

Owned by Travis' parents Dan and Sue Gueguen, the Chrome-Worx Signature Series Top Dragster will now be powered by a 665-cubic inch big-block Chevy from the shops of Carl Spiering's ERD. The car will continue to run an Abruzzi Racing two-speed Powerglide-based transmission with a Barry Grant fuel pump feeding a pair of 1150 Ultra HP Dominators that sit on top of a CFE Sheet Metal intake with Speedtech Nitrous. The nitrous system will be employed for 2012 if the team feels it is necessary.

"Last year was a complete new venture for us, and I believe we achieved our goals," said Dan Gueguen, Travis' father and crew chief for the team. "We are hoping for more consistency this season, and with the new and more powerful engine we should be more competitive. There will be nitrous on the car, but we will use it only if we think it is needed."

Dan Gueguen will crew chief for the team, which includes Sue, Duane and Troy Gueguen, along with Mike Hill and Dave Snodgrass.

Sponsorship for the Top Dragster comes from Dordan Mechanical Inc., Ball Construction Inc., Battlefield Equipment, Carrier, EMC (Enertech), Hyde Construction, Ron Hyde Electric, IPEX , Sheffar Potter Muchan and VanDel Contracting.

While the team qualified for all but one event in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series last year, Travis Gueguen said he enjoyed his first year in the series and is looking for more success in 2012.

"We had a lot of fun last year," said the Frank Hawley Drag Racing School graduate. "We met a lot of great and helpful people, and we can't wait to get back out this year."

"We're getting excited," added Dan Gueguen. "The Series has been great, with a great group of racers. I want to thank the Moser, Wicke, Wildgust, Hyde, and Orr teams for their help and support."

The Quick 32 Sportsman Series kicks off its 2012 season with the Victoria Day Weekend Challenge May 18-20 at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park, the first of six events.

The Quick 32 Sportsman Series' companion series, the Pro Modified Racing Association, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series, will also be at Cayuga for this event.
