NORWALK, Ohio (February 9, 2012)
– The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) is pleased to welcome
Yellowstone Drag Strip located 15 miles northwest of Billings, Mont. to
the IHRA family of member tracks.
Under
the new management of Bret McKenney and C.W. McCarthy, Yellowstone Drag
Strip will begin immediate competition with the Division 6 Border
Bandits running the Summit SuperSeries presented by Moser Engineering
and various other IHRA racing series with opportunities to host larger
IHRA events in the near future.
"Yellowstone
is a first-class facility that presents a lot of opportunities for the
future," said John Carnahan, IHRA Division 6 Director. "It is especially
important in Division 6 where there are not a lot of quarter-mile
tracks of this caliber. Having Yellowstone onboard gives us an
opportunity to have a top-of-the-line quarter-mile track stateside
capable handling any series we hand them.
"I
would have to say that Yellowstone Drag Strip is one of the top five
nicest tracks in the northwest United States and having a track like
this join the IHRA will help pull more tracks to the IHRA."
Yellowstone
Drag Strip is one of four major drag racing facilities in the state of
Montana. The track was built in 2003 and features a first-class racing
facility and plenty of spectator amenities. Located on 15 acres of land
in Acton, Yellowstone Drag Strip features a huge paved lot capable of
holding nearly 300 racers, a lengthy concrete launch pad, six staging
lanes, a two-story brick tower, a large grandstand with concrete
restrooms and more.
In
addition to competition in the Summit SuperSeries, Yellowstone Drag
Strip has plans for numerous special events throughout the year
including hosting the final leg of the Montana Drag Racers Association
state championship race.
