WINNERS FROM REYNOLDS HEADING TO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
South Georgia Motorsports Park Takes Team Championship
REYNOLDS, Ga. – Four winners were crowned today at the NHRA Southeast Division Summit Racing Series event and will advance to the national championship while South Georgia Motorsports Park captured the Team Championship at Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, Ga. The team from South Georgia racked up 54 points, two more than second place Bradenton Motorsports Park, as the home team from Silver Dollar finished in third with 44.
Mark Horton, Callahan, Fla., led the individual class champions knocking out Trevor Beard of Tampa, Fla., in the Super Pro class with a 5.079 second, 135.36 mph run in his ’11 dragster while Albany, Ga., racer Jesse Ivey ran dead on his dial at 7.140 seconds, 95.19 mph to beat Jeff Gatlin in his ‘79 D-50. Gatlin fell short in his ’69 Camaro with a lap of 7.381, 89.76 out of St. Augustine, Fla.
In the Sportsman class it was Jon Siegel, Brandon, Fla., winning on a 7.727 second lap at 80.42 mph over the ’96 Dodge of Van Greer, Kingsport, Tenn., who tripped the clocks at 11.912 on his 11.87 dial in.
Rounding out the winners was Jerry Turner in the Motorcycle category who had a perfect reaction time of 0.000 seconds combined with a run of 5.795 seconds at 118.21 to take home the trophy. Turner, Bluff City, Tenn., beat out Jason Clampitt who went 5.572 seconds at 127.63 mph on his ’10 Suzuki. Turner and the three other individual winners will advance to the NHRA Summit Racing Series National Championship in Pomona, Calif., next month at the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway.
