FATHER-SON SHARE SUMMIT WINNERS CIRCLE IN LAS VEGAS
LAS VEGAS – The father and son team of Tony and Chaysse Trimp shared the winners circle today at the NHRA Summit Racing Series Pacific Division Finals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Tony, running in the Super Pro class for Sacramento Raceway out of Wilton, Calif., posted a perfect reaction time, then ran an 8.624 second lap on an 8.62 dial at 147.75 mph for the win over Mike Proctor, Mesa, Ariz., who clocked in at 8.992, 175.57.
Tony’s son Chaysse drove his ’69 Opel through the Sportsman field and into a final round match up with Jon Irving, Boulder City, Nev., and his ’02 Camaro. Chaysse, also from Wilton, and representing Sacramento Raceway went 12.034 at 115.16 to Irving’s red-light foul start and a 13.583, 92.16. Both joined Ryan Smith and Aaron Pine in the Summit Racing Series Pacific Division winner’s circle celebration Sunday afternoon at The Strip.
Smith, Chandler, Ariz., driving a ’63 Falcon, won the double breakout race with Jeff LaSalle, Santa Rosa, Calif., in a ’67 Coronet for the Pro title. Smith clocked in at 10.070 at 134.23 mph on his 10.08 dial while LaSalle went 10.406 on a 10.42 dial at 127.13 mph.
Pine took the honors in the 2-wheel motorcycle class on his ’09 Kawasaki against TJ Crocker, Henderson, Nev., and his ’05 Suzuki. Both riders left early with red-light starts with Pine running it out to a 9.429 second 148.49 mph lap and Crocker at 9.811, 136.90
The home team from Las Vegas amassed 84 points to dominate the Team Championship, taking the trophy away from last years team champions Infineon Raceway, Sonoma, Calif., who finished in second with 70. Auto Club Dragway, Fontana, Calif., was third.
