Series eliminations and round two to take place at TMP's Cayuga Dragway June 10 -12
CAYUGA, ONTARIO (June 8, 2011) – The postponed opening round of the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series and the Pro Bike & Sled Series will be completed June 10–12 along with the second event.
The racing will take place during the Xtreme Mayhem Nationals to be held at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park.
While qualifying in all three Series opener was completed, rain postponed the elimination rounds, and these will be held along with the entire second event at Cayuga.
Three-time PMRA champion Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario brought out his new car, and was very successful, qualifying number one with a 5.953-second, 235.47-mph pass in the B&B Racing 1941 Willys.
"The car shows a lot of promise," noted Boland, who set a personal best. "That 5.95 was the first full pass in the car. It really goes down the track. It's a good car."
The Pro Modified Racing Association teams will compete for the Championship Point Award Series presented by Patio Passport and Magnum Auto Parts.
Qualifying second was Vito Montesano of Maple, Ontario. Third was Derek Hawker of Corbyville, Ontario, fourth was Jeff Roth of Kitchener, Ontario, Mark Nielsen of Brantford, Ontario, Gary Irving of Toronto, Ontario, Jay Santos of Halton Hills, Ontario and John Russo of Middletown, Massachusetts rounded out the top eight.
Two-time and defending Quick 32 Sportsman Series champion Kevin Wicke qualified number one on the Top Sportsman side, while Peter Edward took the top spot on the Top Dragster side.
Wicke, of Stratford, Ontario, ran a 6.882-second, 200.35-mph pass to qualify number one with his 2006 Dodge Stratus. Edwards, of Honeoye, New York drove his Spitzer dragster to the top of the Top Dragster ladder with a 6.298-second, 216.81-mph run.
"The car was okay," noted Wicke about his number one showing. "We put a new converter in the car, and we're happy with it. We should be good to go."
Wicke is followed by Darryl McMillen of Goderich, Ontario, and Spencer Hyde of Stratford, Ontario, in the Top Sportsman division.
Rick Kopp of Burlington, Ontario, and Scott Wildgust of Wartburg, Ontario, are second and third behind Edwards in the Top Dragster division.
The Quick 32 Sportsman Series takes the top 16 cars of each division for elimination rounds, and the top eliminator in the Top Dragster side is matched against the top eliminator in the Top Sportsman side to determine the event winner.
Taking the number one spot on the Pro Bike division of the PBSS was John Orfanidis of Toronto, Ontario, who posted a 7.837-second, 171.36-mph effort on his Suzuki GSX-R. Qualifying number one on the Pro Sled division was Dave Marshall of Prescott, Ontario with an 8.861-second, 164.41-mph pass.
The PBSS is a series for motorcycles and snowmobiles, and the qualified motorcycles race against each other, as do the qualified snowmobiles. The number one eliminator on each side then races against each other to determine an event champion.
"We had a very good day," noted Orfanidis, who set both low time and top speed at Cayuga. "We're going to work on our 60-foot, hopefully turn some better numbers, and be more consistent."
The elimination rounds for the postponed PBSS race will be held June 10-12 during the Xtreme Mayhem Nationals at Cayuga. After their completion, the second event in the 2011 season will take place at the Kohler Road drag strip.
Qualifying second in the PBSS Pro Bike division was Dan Cryderman of Thamesville, Ontario, and third was Randy Hope of London, Ontario. James Miller of Orillia, Ontario, and Bill Anderson of Seaforth, Ontario, round out the top contestants in the Pro Sled division.
