GLENDORA, Calif. (June 14, 2011) – NHRA announced today that the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series event scheduled for Aug. 6-7 at Auto Club Dragway at Auto Club Speedway, in Fontana, has been rescheduled and will now be held at Auto Club Famoso Raceway, in Bakersfield, Oct. 15-16. This change comes with a few other changes to the racing schedule at Auto Club Dragway and will ensure compliance with current maximum sound levels at that facility. Auto Club Dragway remains committed to future Heritage Series activity at Fontana.
“We fully support the decision of Auto Club Dragway and also want to thank Auto Club Famoso Raceway for stepping in and taking on this event for the 2011 season,” said Eric Lotz, NHRA Director of Field Marketing. “It’s never easy to make adjustments to your schedule in the middle of the year, but Auto Club Famoso Raceway has once again shown its support of the Hot Rod Heritage Series and that of NHRA Drag Racing.”
The event will be the final points earning event for the Group 2 classes (NE I, NE II, NE III, A/Gas, B/Gas, C/Gas, D/Gas, and Hot Rod) with the 2011 NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series Champions being crowned. Also in Heritage Series competition will be the A/Fuel, Jr. Fuel and 7.0 Pro classes. These classes, along with Nostalgia Top Fuel and Nostalgia Funny Car, will conclude their season the following weekend, Oct. 21-23 at the California Hot Rod Reunion presented by AAA, also at Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield.
Additionally, NHRA announced that because of a complete lack of participation, the AA/Gas class will be suspended for the remainder of the 2011 season and will not be contested as part of the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series at any of the remaining events. Individual tracks may elect to run this class, or other classes in conjunction with their Heritage Series event, but such competition will not count as points earning events for the Series.
