DEMKE AND LOMBARDO SCORE BIG AT TOP GUN RACEWAY
FALLON, Nev. – Scoring their second win in a row, alcohol drivers Chris Demke and John Lombardo, Jr., follow up their wins at Auto Club Famoso Raceway with victories at Top Gun Raceway in the Pacific division’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. In Top Alcohol Dragster, Demke, Sunland, Calif., set the track speed record in his final pass against Cody Perkins, Buffdale, Utah, with a 5.530 second run at 258.67 mph. Lombardo, Brea, Calif., and Jay Payne, Claremont, Calif., faced off in the finals of Top Alcohol Funny Car. Both drivers left the line at the same time, but Lombardo narrowly made it to the finish line first with his run of 5.935 seconds at 243.85 mph to Payne’s run of 5.940 seconds at 240.47 mph.
Justin Lamb also scored another win for the year in Comp Eliminator over the weekend. Lamb, Henderson, Nev., who appeared earlier in the year in the finals at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and won at Firebird International Raceway, defeated Doug Lambeck in the final round. In Super Stock, Larry Zavala, Jr., Montebello, Calif., ran a 10.326 second 113.44 mph pass against Ken Etter, Riverside, Calif., and his run of 10.872 seconds at 123.83 mph. Zavala got off the line first and kept the lead all the way to the win.
In Stock, Chad Loge, Brentwood, Calif., collected his second consecutive win this season in the Pacific division. Loge, who also won at Auto Club Famoso, ran an 11.290 second 115.96 mph pass against Andy Durham, Oak Park, Calif. Another California resident, Matthew Woodward from Hermosa Beach, defeated Eagle, Idaho, resident Geoff Hughes in Super Comp. Woodward ran a 9.284 second pass at 170.36 mph in the finals.
Roger Kato, N. Las Vegas, drove his ’05 Cavalier to the finals against Mira Silvia, Upland, Calif. and her ’04 Cavalier in Super Gas. Kato’s final pass of 10.303 seconds at 151.85 mph was enough to secure a win in his home state. In Super Street, Ryan Herem from Quartz Hill, Calif., got the early lead on Matthew Blodgett, Long Beach, Calif., in the final round. Herem held that position all the way to the end and had a winning run of 11.308 seconds, 126.33 mph in his ’69 Camaro.
Other winners include Roger Hall, Las Vegas, who drove his ’63 Corvette to a victory in the finals against Chip Rumis, Ramona, Calif., in Top Sportsman; Chris Forsyth, Laguna Hills, Calif. who defeated Sheldon Gecker from Surprise, Ariz., in Hughes Top Dragster; and in Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson, T.J. Crocker, Henderson, Nev., who drove his ’05 Hayabusa to a win over Wayne Cox, Eureka, Calif., and his ’07 Kawasaki with a final pass of 10.242 seconds at 132.87 mph.
Pacific Division racers will head to Infineon Raceway July 22-24 for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event.
