Super Chevy Show to conclude 30th Season in Phoenix

PHOENIX (Oct. 21) -- The Super Chevy Show concludes its 30th anniversary season this weekend with perhaps its most-anticipated event of the year when the national touring series visits Firebird International Raceway near Phoenix on Saturday, Oct. 23 and Sunday, Oct. 24.

It's the Super Chevy Show's first visit to the Valley of the Sun in eight years, and track operator Charlie Allen has put together an exciting schedule for the occasion. It will feature Nostalgia Funny Cars hitting the quartermile for a Night of Fire on Saturday and an Autocross that will be constructed and managed by the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving. The two-day event will also include sportsman drag racing in four classes, a car show and swap meet.

The Nostalgia Funny Car show, which will turn Firebird International Raceway in a yesteryear and drag racing's glory days, will have two qualifying sessions at noon and 3 p.m. on Saturday before a night show that features some of the best Nostalgia Funny Cars on the West Coast, jet cars, a wheelstander and motorcycles.

The Total Cost Involved/Wilwood/Currie Enterprises Autocross is also expected to big draw as well. The course will be open between 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. both days. The Bondurant group has a solid reputation among road racers, and in addition to setting up the course, will also provide some hot laps for interested parties. Mary Pozzi, who set the pace at an Autocross during the first event of the Super Chevy Show season in Las Vegas, will compete this weekend.

There will be a car show each day, with Super Chevy Magazine giving out its Top 10 Editors Choice Awards on Saturday.

The weekend will start with a test-n-tune on Friday.
