PORT PERRY, ONTARIO (October 24, 2010) - Eric Latino, who tied for third in the Pro Modified Racing Association Championship Point Award Series presented by Magnum Auto Parts and Patio Passport with 1228 points, said recently he was pleased with his season, and cited consistency is an important part of success.
Latino started off the season with a victory during the opening round of the tour at the Dragway Park of Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario. He qualified for all but one event, and was a quarter and semi-finalist in the other races for the year.
He said that consistent running is the way to win.
"Consistency wins races, no matter what type of racing you are in, this way drilled to the team at every race by Paul Bassil (The Concierge) and I want to personally thank Paul for all of his assistance," he noted. "As an example, during our last race we changed engines and did not qualify. We should have stuck to our game plan, leaving things alone, and perhaps we could have finished higher in the points."
The Chevy is powered by a Veney 526-cubic inch supercharged hemi engine, sitting in the frame rails of the Jerry Bickel Race Cars, tweaked by Don
Phoenix. The power is transmitted through a Lenco CS2, and a Waterman Racing Components fuel system and a Kobelco K-11 14-71 help provide the power.
Racing since 1980, Latino wanted to thank his crew for their help. Peter Olin performed the crew chief duties, with Rachael Olin, Matthew Latino and Gord Campbell making up the rest of the effort. Jim Salemi was on hand helping the team as car chief.
"The crew did an awesome job," he said. "The help from Jim (Salemi) also paid off and was appreciated.
At the last race we changed the engine in the car, this is a risky thing to do but we were in the points standing at a position that we couldn't up or down move so we took the opportunity to get big power to prepare the car for the Shakedown At E Town race," explained Latino. "The new power came from Rob and Ann Sporring and their Quality Plus Compressor team tuned by Paulo D'Alimonte. I want to thank them for helping me achieve my carrier best of 6.08-seconds at 235-mph and a 60ft of 9.69-seconds. It's great for our young team to have the experience and knowledge that Paulo D'Alimonte brings to the team."
"We're planning to step it up for 2011," he said. "The 38 Chevy is an awesome working car and gets down just about every time so we plan on sticking with the new power and team hoping to get the car to run in the high 5.90's to low 6.00-seconds."
The PMRA and Quick 32 Sportsman Series Championship Point Award Series winners will be honored at the "Night of Champions" on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at The Best Western Cairn Croft Hotel in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
