Jeff Moser captures Quick 32 Sportsman Series event at Summer Showdown
MARTIN, MICHIGAN (June 13, 2012) Jeff Moser's weekend didn't start out as planned, but the MoBoyz Racing Team with Moser driving persevered and was successful in winning the second round of the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts over the weekend.
The race, part of the Summer Showdown at the US 131 Motorsports Park at Martin, Michigan, was the second of six races for 2012.
We had a rocky start, said the driver of the Top Dragster. We grenaded the distributor and chewed up a tire, but we got everything fixed and made the third qualifier.
Moser qualified for the show starting 10th on the Top Dragster side. The series features Top Dragsters and Top Sportsman entries. The 16 teams for each side race against each other, then the finalists of each race in a final to determine the event winner.
Moser defeated Top Sportsman driver Rob Gray of Ingersoll, Ontario in the Wilson and Gray Chevy Cavalier to take the win, his second in Quick 32 Sportsman Series competition.
We were excited to race Wilson and Gray in the final, said Moser, who comes from Bamberg, Ontario. We've known them for years and this was the first time we have raced together.
Michael Hinbest of Orangeville, Ontario, qualified number one in Top Dragster with a 6.2612-second, 223.23-mph run, followed by Dave Leverentz of Irving, New York and Scott Wildgust of Wartburg, Ontario.
Qualifying number one in Top Sportsman was two-time Quick 32 Sportsman Series champion Kevin Wicke of Stratford, Ontario with a 6.8399, 201.64. Spencer Hyde, also of Stratford, qualified second, and Dave Bell of Goderich qualified third.
In round one of Top Dragster, Moser eliminated Leverentz, number 14 qualifier Jamie Bridge of Napanee, Ontario in round two, and number 13 qualifier Mike Everitt of Stratford, Ontario in round three to meet up with number 15 qualifier Chuck Stirdivant of Dorr, Michigan in the Top Dragster final.
Meanwhile, Gray eliminated Bell in the first round of Top Sportsman, number six qualifier Paul Martin of Breslau, Ontario in round two, and number five qualifier Ken Langlois of Milan, Michigan before going up against Wicke in the Top Sportsman final.
A quick reaction time at the line helped Gray take out Wicke, and Moser nipped by Stirdivant for the Top Dragster win.
Moser ran a 6.7818 at 201.37 on a 6.77 index to defeat Gray and his 7.2809, 186.64 on a 7.28 index.
Moser said after the race, We had a successful day, he mentioned, but the racing was close. The races with Everitt and Stirdivant were real tight!

Moser wanted to thank several Quick 32 Sportsman Series teams for their help at US 131.
Everybody came together in helping us out, he said. "I want to thank not only our sponsors and the crew, but the Sampsons, the VanDerGeld's, the Everitt's, Scott Wildgust, Paul Martin, Chris Pomeroy and Eric Latino (Pro Modified Racing Association driver) for their help and use of their equipment. I also want to thank JEGS for getting us the necessary parts rushed in overnight.
