IHRA announces 'bring a friend' program for Summit Sportsman Spectacular at Maryland International Raceway

Summit Sportsman Spectacular returns to MIR July 13-15

NORWALK, Ohio (June 21, 2012) – In advance of the second Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Spectacular presented by AMSOIL at Maryland International Raceway to be held the weekend of July 13-15, the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) has announced a special "bring a friend" inventive program for returning racers.

Any racer who participated in the 2011 Summit Sportsman Spectacular at Maryland who brings a new class racer, one that did not race at the Maryland event last year, will receive a voucher for a free re-entry pass if the racer should need it. This offer is for class racers only in the classes of Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, Super Stock, Stock, Quick Rod, Super Rod and Hot Rod.

"Think of this as an insurance policy. Hopefully you won't need to use the re-entry voucher because you will win round one, but if the unthinkable should happen, we have you covered," said Skooter Peaco, IHRA Vice President of Race Operations. "This is our way of saying thank you for bringing a new racer to this event."

All racers have to do is contact the IHRA and let them know who is coming by the July 9 deadline and the returning racer will receive a voucher for the re-entry round if needed.

If the class count reaches 64 or more in your class there won't be a re-entry round, so the voucher will roll over to the 2013 Summit Sportsman Spectacular at MIR.

In all a grand total of $5,000 is up for grabs in each IHRA class for winners as the event features open fields consisting of both IHRA and NHRA competitors and a spot in the year-end Summit Racing Equipment Tournament of Champions presented by AMSOIL up for grabs making this the must-attend sportsman drag race of the season.

The Sportsman Spectacular all gets underway on Friday, July 13 with a test and tune for all racers followed by a full day of qualifying and the first round eliminations on Saturday, July 14. Saturday's race will also feature a re-entry round for first round losers to get back into the competition if the class car count is less than 64 cars, however any driver that loses first round and goes on to win the event will not earn a berth in the Tournament of Champions. Racers will conclude the event on Sunday with a huge purse, Ironman, national event contingency and a spot in the Tournament of Champions for IHRA members.

Racing will be conducted in IHRA's seven regular touring Pro-Am classes of Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, ClassRacer.com Super Stock, ClassRacer.com Stock, Quick Rod, Super Rod and Hot Rod with each winner collecting a $5,000 payday. Also in competition will be Top ET, Mod ET and Junior Dragster.

Entry into the event is only $200 with a guaranteed $5,000 to win for Pro-Am classes plus national event contingency going to the winner in each of the regular IHRA touring classes.
