Top Dragsters due for a win in Quick 32 Sportsman Series drag racing

Upcoming Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals at Grand Bend Motorplex August 4-7 pits Top Dragster cars against Top Sportsman entries
CAYUGA, ONTARIO (August 3, 2011) – Going into the next round of Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts this weekend at the Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals presented by Ideal Supply & NAPA Auto Parts at the Grand Bend Motorplex, the Top Dragster 
racers are due for an event win.

Comprised of Top Dragster entries and Top Sportsman entries, the racers compete within their own division, and the top eliminator in each goes up against one another for the event title.

With three races so far in 2011, all event winners have been Top Sportsman teams.

Winning the first race of the season was Top Sportsman driver Phil Sampson and his 2002 Chevy Cavalier, who won the final at the Cayuga Dragway over the Top Dragster of Jamie Bridge of Napanee Ontario. Sampson, from Granton, Ontario, presently leads the Quick 32 Championship Point Award Series Standings with 692 points, while Bridge is second with 651 points.

Winning event number two of the season was Top Sportsman driver Darrin Grubb of Pine River Ontario in his 2004 Cavalier, taking out the Hinbest Racing Top Dragster with Michael Hinbest of Orangeville, Ontario in the final.

And in the latest match-up, another Top Sportsman entry, the 2007 Pontiac GTO of Bob Bauer Jr from Elma, New York, took the race over the Mike Bos Top Dragster of Bill White from Stratford, Ontario.

Grubb is presently third in points with 633. The Ingersoll, Ontario-based team of Rob Wilson and Bill Gray is next with 638 points, and fifth is Bauer with 626 points. All the top five teams except Bridge are Top Sportsman entries.

But sixth through ninth positions are held by Top Dragster teams. Michael Kalin of Niagara Falls, New York, is sixth with 604 points; Hinbest is next with 595, followed closely by White with 594. Tony Positano of Toronto, Ontario is ninth with 591 points, and the Top Sportsman Corvette of Darryl McMillen of Goderich, Ontario is tenth with 579 points.

The upcoming race will be the fourth in the six-race Quick 32 Sportsman Series. 

The dragsters and the door-slammers will be out in full force at Grand Bend this weekend, August 4-7, the first race of the 2011 season to be held at the track. This popular annual race will feature rounds in the two companion series to the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, the Pro Modified Racing Association, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series. 

The weekend will also feature Nostalgia Nitro Funny Cars, Ike Maier in the Paton Racing Top Fueler, wheelstander and jet car action, and two top Alcohol Funny Cars, the Larry Dobb's car and Cassandra Simonton driving the Kon Rodz Racing entry of Spiro Kontos.


Session one of Quick 32 Sportsman Series qualifying gets underway Friday August 5 at 7:15 pm. Qualifying continues Saturday August 6 at 4 pm, and the elimination rounds are scheduled to begin Sunday August 7 at 11:15 am.

Thursday, August 4 the weekend gets underway with a Fan Fest Party hosted by Boston Pizza in Stratford. On Friday August 5 there will be a Test & Tune session beginning at 11 am, gates open to the public at 3:00 pm and the first qualifying round in the PMRA, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the PBSS takes place at 7:15 pm, followed by entertainment presented by Ideal Supply in the NAPA tent.

The Vendor Midway opens at 9 am Saturday August 6 to start the day. After Time Trial sessions for Bracket racers in the afternoon, qualifying continues at 4 pm for the PMRA, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the PBSS, as well as round one for the Nostalgia Nitro Funny Cars, Alcohol Funny Cars, Ike Maier Top Fuel Dragster, Wheelstander and Jet Dragster. At 7 pm qualifying and the show cars return, and the evening closes with fireworks and entertainment.

At 11:15 am Sunday August 7 eliminations begin along with a return of the Nostalgia Nitro Funny Cars, Alcohol Funny Cars, Ike Maier Top Fuel Dragster, Wheelstander and Jet Funny Car. Eliminations for the PMRA, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the PBSS will continue through the day, with the final rounds scheduled for 5 pm.
