Latino heads up PMRA, Kopp and Goddard qualify number one in Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and Bernier tops PBSS
GRAND BEND, ONTARIO (August 6, 2011) – In front of a large crowd at the Grand Bend Motorplex, Eric Latino secured the top qualifying position in the Pro Modified Racing Association, Rick Kopp and Frank Goddard lead in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and Jim Bernier has the top qualifying position the Pro Bike & Sled Series.The three drag racing series are part of the Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals presented by Ideal Supply & NAPA Auto Parts held this weekend at Grand Bend. The race is the fourth in the six-race series for the 2011 season.
Latino, of Whitby, Ontario, took the top spot in the PMRA sessions with a 5.971-second, 240.51-mph pass in his 1969 Camaro Pro Modified. Jack Grainy of Basom, New York was second in qualifying, and Jeff Roth of New Dundee, Ontario took third.
Rick Kopp leads the large contingent of Top Dragster entries in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, while Frank Goddard heads up the Top Sportsman side of the series. Kopp, of Burlington, Ontario, turned in a 6.151, 224.10 pass in Top Dragster, while Goddard, of Guelph, Ontario, ran a 6.796, 212.56 pass in Top Sportsman.
For the first time in Quick 32 Sportsman Series history, the 16 qualified entries in Top Dragster all recorded elapsed times of under seven seconds.
Following Kopp in Top Dragster is Paul Noakes of London, Ontario and Peter Edwards of Honeoye, New York. Spencer Hyde, and Kevin Wicke, both of Stratford, Ontario qualified second and third behind Goddard.Bernier, of Stratford, Ontario qualified his Pro Bike Suzuki number one in the PBSS, with a 7.930, 165.74. John Orfanidis of Toronto, Ontario and Danny Staples of Beachville, Ontario are second and third behind Bernier with their Pro Bike entries. Dave Marshall, of Prescott, Ontario, heads up the PBSS Pro Sled side with his Proline snow machine.
Racing in all three series resume Sunday, August 7, with the elimination rounds scheduled to begin at 11:15 am.
