CHANDLER, Ariz. – The last time NHRA raced during the month of October at Firebird International Raceway, Shirley Muldowney was at the top of her game.
At the 1989 NHRA Fallnationals, Muldowney roared through a tough pack of Top Fuel contenders to claim her 18th career victory. It was the three-time NHRA world champion’s last victory on the circuit and for Muldowney, one that she still remembers like it was yesterday.

READING, Pa. (October 6, 2011) – The Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals returns to Maple Grove Raceway tomorrow for the conclusion of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series portion of the event that was postponed last weekend due to weather and extremely wet grounds in the sportsman pit area.
The four classes of competition this weekend are Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, and Super Gas that will make two qualifying/time trial runs on Friday, and move into elimination rounds on Saturday morning with final rounds scheduled for Saturday evening. Racing begins each day at 8:45 a.m.

NORWALK, Ohio (October 5, 2011) – The IHRA racing season may be winding down, but the action on the track is just about to heat up.
With over $200,000 up for grabs over the course of the three-day IHRA Summit Racing Equipment World Finals presented by RacingJunk.com weekend at Virginia Motorsports Park next weekend, the action on the track is sure to be among the most intense of the season.
And kicking off the huge weekend will be the last regular season race of 2011 as the International Hot Rod Association and Summit Racing Equipment host the $5,000 to win, last chance Tournament of Champions qualifier known as the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Spectacular October 14-15 at VMP.
The Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Spectacular is a special race open to all racers with a valid IHRA or NHRA license. Racing will be contested in Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, Super Stock, Stock, Quick Rod, Super Rod and Hot Rod with $5,000 going to the winner. As an added bonus, IHRA members that win the Sportsman Spectacular will automatically qualify for the Summit Racing Equipment Tournament of Champions later that weekend for a shot at $10,000 and the title of IHRA World Champion.
TBC RETAIL GROUP AND ITS BIG O TIRES BRAND TO BECOME TITLE SPONSOR OF FALL LAS VEGAS EVENT
GLENDORA, Calif. (Oct. 5, 2011) — NHRA announced today that it has entered into a multi-year relationship with TBC Retail Group and its Big O Tires brand to serve as title rights sponsor of the fall event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. NHRA WEST CENTRAL DIVISION SUMMIT RACE OF CHAMPIONS CROWNED
KEARNEY, Neb. (October 3, 2011) – The NHRA West Central Division Summit Racing Series picked up the action for the Race of Champions this past weekend at Kearney Raceway Park in conjunction with the Division’s National Open event. The event was postponed due to bad weather at Brainerd International Raceway back on September 18.
Four racers, including Super Pro winner Landon Stallbaumer made the wait, and the extra trip, pay off as they took home the championship trophies. Stallbaumer, Wakarusa, Kan., took the win in a ’03 dragster posting a lap of 8.177 seconds at 156.73 against Kyle Kunze, Persia, Iowa, who recorded a perfect reaction time but broke out with an 8.960 second run on an 8.97 dial-in with his ’67 Nova.
In the Pro class it was a pair of Kansas racers facing off in the final round as Nyle Reinert, Great Bend, Kan., took the holeshot and held on for the win over TJ Tobler, Leawood, Kan. Reinert went 12.149 seconds at 107.47 in his ’74 Pontiac.
Nebraska racer Tom Gilligan, Fremont, Neb., took his ’77 Kawasaki to the Super Pro Bike winner’s circle with a lap of 8.928 seconds at 146.10 mph in defeating Beau Drexler, Lakewood, Colo., who left early with a foul start on his ’08 Buell. Toni Vetter made the trip from Gettysburg, S.D., to race her ’75 Mustang in the High School class knocking out Matt Selden, Bellevue, Neb., for the win in 12.391 seconds at 109.35 mph.

LAS VEGAS – The father and son team of Tony and Chaysse Trimp shared the winners circle today at the NHRA Summit Racing Series Pacific Division Finals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Tony, running in the Super Pro class for Sacramento Raceway out of Wilton, Calif., posted a perfect reaction time, then ran an 8.624 second lap on an 8.62 dial at 147.75 mph for the win over Mike Proctor, Mesa, Ariz., who clocked in at 8.992, 175.57.

Merrill, from Edmond, Okla., used a hole-shot starting line advantage, and a 6.367 second run on a 6.36 dial-in in his ’94 Camaro, to edge out Michael “Drew” Porcher, Conroe, Texas, in an ’88 S-10 running 6.232 at 111.83 mph. Merrill and his teammates from Thunder Valley, Noble, Okla., gather up 71 points to defend their team championship from a year ago with North Star Dragway and Royal Purple Raceway finishing 2nd and 3rd.

Shearer, Exetez, Calif., used a near perfect reaction time of 0.005 seconds in his ’10 dragster to hold off Kyle Seipel, Pleasanton, Calif., for the win in Super Pro. Shearer went on to post a run of 7.828 seconds at 167.20 mph to the quicker Seipel at 7.788, 170.15 in his ’09 dragster.

The team from South Georgia racked up 54 points, two more than second place Bradenton Motorsports Park, as the home team from Silver Dollar finished in third with 44.

MOHNTON, Pa. – Matco Tools pilot Antron Brown raced to the No. 1 qualifying spot in Top Fuel with style Saturday when he recorded the second-quickest pass in NHRA history during the team’s final qualifying efforts at the Auto-Plus® NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway.
"It's an awesome feeling. I grew up in this part of the country, so it feels great to do this in front of so many friends, family, and peers,” Brown said. “The Funny Car have been doing this (setting records) for a while, and it was the dragsters' turn.
Johnny Gray (Funny Car), Jason Line (Pro Stock) and Hector Arana Jr. (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also took advantage of the fast conditions Saturday and took over the No. 1 qualifying spots in their respective categories at the third race of the six-race Countdown to the Championship, NHRA’s playoffs.
Brown’s national record-setting pass of 3.766 at 325.30 came just one pair after reigning Top Fuel champ Larry Dixon set the national record right in front of him with a 3.769 at 323.43.
