O'FALLON, MO (December 21, 2011) – With a new rainout and participation points policy, along with several additional changes, the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) officially released its 2012 General Regulations on Tuesday.
The 2012 ADRL Tour starts on March 30-31 with Dragpalooza VIII at Royal Purple Raceway in Houston, the first of 10 events on the 2012 ADRL schedule.
The full set of the 2012 General Regulations can be downloaded at www.adrl.us/competition/rules or by clicking on the "2012 Rules/Regulations/Documents/Fees" dropdown under the "Competition" tab on the ADRL homepage, www.ADRL.us. All changes for the 2012 season are highlighted in red in the document.
The following is the new rainout policy:
The ADRL will do everything possible to complete the event in a timely manner. In the event of adverse conditions beyond our control, the ADRL reserves the right to finish the event by any means necessary, including but not limited to: early start times, running late into the evening, canceling a qualifying session(s) or finishing the event on the following day(s).
However, if the ADRL has determined that it is no longer prudent to continue to wait to finish an event, that event will be considered complete and the following policies will remain in effect:
· If two or more rounds of qualifying have been completed but eliminations are unable to being, then 100 points plus qualifying points will be awarded to the top 16 qualifiers in each class, and the event will be considered complete.
· If two qualifying sessions are unable to be completed and no elimination rounds are completed, the event will be considered canceled. All racers with an event tech card will receive 25 points for participation.
· If any elimination rounds are completed prior to an event being declared a rainout, points and payouts will be awarded to the point in the contest under the normal system and the event will be declared completed.
There will also be a greater reward for racers who attend all 10 races in 2012. In addition to the 25 participation points to all competitors who make a qualifying attempt at each event, drivers will earn 250 additional points for attending all events, meaning competitors can earn as much as 500 points for participating in every 2012 race.
"With the introduction of a new rainout policy, it shows how dedicated we are to finishing each race during the 2012 season, even if it means possibly racing on a Sunday or beyond. We are dedicated to putting on a great show for our fans and giving our amazing teams every opportunity to complete an event," ADRL Director of Competition Tom Grooms said.
"Giving competitors the ability to earn 250 points for attending each race during 2012 will also put a premium on taking part in each event, which will lead to even more incredible action during the 2012 season."
