MILAN, MI. – Content muscle car enthusiasts got their fix this past weekend at the 5th Annual JE Pistons Muscle Car Nationals and Aerospace Components NHRA Unleashed at Milan Dragway in Milan, MI. Eleven racers made it to the top of their class, and earned them a coveted Wally trophy.

CLERMONT, Ind. – It’s amazing how much can change in a year. Leah Pruett-LeDuc can attest to that.

Just one year ago, Pruett-LeDuc was making her rounds in the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series, competing with her Nostalgia Funny Car at tracks up and down the West Coast.

Now, as the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series makes its eighth of 10 stops in 2011 at the prestigious Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil at historic Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, Pruett-LeDuc will make her third appearance behind the wheel of her supercharged ProCare Rx ’68 Camaro, a car and a class that she has picked up very quickly.

www.glnfcc.com Nostalgia Funny Car Night Dunn Tire Raceway Park, Clarence, NY Friday, August 26th, 2011 This is the third year for this event. The previous years the event had been ran the Friday of Fourth Of July weekend, but this year they moved the event to the end of August. We were to bring 8 cars to this show but due to an error on the GLNFCC director's part we only had seven cars for the show. But they all vowed to put on a great show to make up for the missing car. It was a nice late August night with clear skies and temps in the mid seventies First pair out was the Rat Poison Corvette driven by Greg Mauchmer taking on the Total Insanity Monza driven by Chris Massarella. Both cars came out with great burnouts. Krista Massarella was backing up her husband looking a lot like Jungle Pam. Krista was recently crowned Best Back Up Girl at the Funny Car Reunion held at Englishtown N.J. and the Funny Car Nationals held at Marion County International Raceway in LaRue, Oh. The Monza was out first and held on for the win. Next up the Dazed & Confused 69 Camaro driven by Jerry Streb was taking on the Visionary Cuda driven by Scott Hohensee, this is Scott's home track. It seemed like both drivers were trying to break in a new set of slicks because they had so much smoke in the air you couldn't see the other side of the track. During the burnout the Cuda got a little sideways and came real close to the concrete wall. The Camaro was out first but the Cuda tried real hard to run the Camaro down but ran out of track. Next up was Robb Bundy's Shellshock 72 Vega taking on Lance Good's Omni. Lance's throttle stuck on the burnout and he just drove the car down the track giving the Vega an easy win. Last up was the Old & Fuelish Corvette driven by John DeCort. John made the spectators forget he was making a single as he did a full track smoky burnout and clicked the timers with a 4.95. Second round was under the lights and the dew had moved in real heavy. Several of the teams had a challenge keeping their windshield clear. First up was Sharky's Machine Omni. Lance did a long burnout and then for some reason changed lanes and backed up in the opposite lane that he started in. I'm sure this was to wow the crowd. The car did not stick in the fresh lane so Lance was on and off of the throttle the whole way down the track. Next pair up was the Visionary Cuda and the Rat Poison Corvette. The Cuda had problems staging and never lit the bulbs. The Corvette staged and took the win. Next Pair was the Old & Fuelish Corvette taking on the Shellshock Vega. Both cars did strong burnouts with the Corvette again doing an almost full track burnout. The Corvette took off first and turned on the win light with a 4.68/147. Winner Chris Massarella Driver of Total Insanity Total Insanity Last pair was the two fastest from the first round. The Dazed & Confused Camaro with a 4.73 taking on the Total Insanity Monza with a 4.77. After the fire up the Monza had some issues with the dew on the windshield but that seem to go away once the body got a little heat on it. Both cars did half-track smoky burnouts. Both cars also did a few dry hops as they staged. The Monza was out first winning the Good Vibrations Motorsports Reaction Time Award with a .494 light. The Monza gave up a fight but the Camaro took the win for the night with a 4.62/148 to a losing 4.73/143. Bill Leverentz Of Oddy's Performance put up an impromptu burnout contest. He awarded the $100.00 cash prize to Jerry Streb with the Dazed & Confused Camaro. We want to thank Bill for this spur of the moment incentive. This was a Fan Choice Award event and there was a tie, giving the award to the Old & Fuelish Corvette and the Total Insanity Monza. This award is presented by Good Vibrations Motorsports. As always we want to thank Good Vibrations Motorsports, Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels, Herculiner, Peak Automotive Products and Pace Performance for supporting The GLNFCC. BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Brain Mans and Tony Bartone waited an extra month but it was worth it as they pulled their cars in to winner’s circle for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Buckeye Fuel Wars event. The event was postponed a month and move from National Trail Raceway near Columbus, Ohio, to Beech Bend Raceway Park, Bowling Green, Ky., to be concluded in conjunction with this past weekend’s final NHRA North Central Division Lucas Oil Series event.

Mans, Godfrey, Ill., outran Mike Kosky, Robin Samsel and reigning NHRA Lucas Oil National Champion Bill Reichert of Owosso, Mich., for the long awaited win in Top Alcohol Dragster. Godfrey ran 5.607 seconds, 5.570, and 5.576 in eliminations with an average speed of about 250 mph for his first win of the season.

Bartone made the haul from Long Island City, N.Y., and drove his ‘09 Centre Pointe sponsored Top Alcohol Funny Car Mustang to victory over Chris Foster, Davenport, Iowa. Bartone ran his best lap of the day covering the quarter mile in 5.630 seconds at 256.50 mph to Foster’s 5.732, 256.50.

REICHERT, MANZO LEAD WINNERS IN BOWLING GREEN

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Bill Reichert and Frank Manzo led all winners this weekend at Beech Bend Raceway Park and the NHRA North Central Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. Reichert, the reigning national champion and defending event champion from Owosso, Mich., led the field in qualifying and grabbed his fourth win of the year in defeating Richard Putz, Earlville, Iowa, with a lap of 5.367 seconds at 262.18 mph. Putz, the No. 2 qualifier, ran quicker each round with a 5.459, 258.96 pass in the final.

It was a monster match up in the Top Alcohol Funny Car final as Manzo, Morganville, N.J., faced off with Tony Bartone. Manzo has dominated the class for a number of years but is locked in a battle for the National Championship this year with Bartone, Long Island City, N.Y. The two have 17 wins (national and divisional) between them this year with this being Manzo’s seventh. The two qualified 1 and 2, and advancing to the final where Manzo outran Bartone with a 5.593, 259.26 to a 5.668, 259.16.

NHRA OFFERS FREE ADMISSION TO ACTIVE MILITARY FOR FRIDAY'S RACING AT MAC TOOLS U.S. NATIONALS

CLERMONT, Ind. – As a special thank you to all that have bravely served our country, the NHRA will offer free general admission tickets to both active and retired military for the Friday night qualifying session during the Mac Tools U. S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis on Sept. 2. 

The Friday night qualifying session at the Mac Tools U. S. Nationals is one of the highlights of the weekend, and is the first time the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series teams will take to the track and attempt to qualify for the race.  There is electricity in the air when the cars go down the track the first time during the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals and the special ticket offer will be a perfect way to salute the military in attendance. 

The offer must be taken advantage of at the gate on Sept. 2. One complimentary ticket per person will be issued and proof of active or retired military status will be required to receive the complimentary general admission ticket.

ADCOCK DOUBLES, GREEN-KING SCORES SECOND

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sherman Adcock scored a rare double this past weekend at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at zMAX Dragway. Adcock, Fortson, Ga., took out Jason Kenny, Kingston, Ont., CAN, in the Super Comp Final with a lap of 8.908 seconds 176.28 mph then faced off against Cameron Manuel, Winston Salem, N.C., in the final of Super Gas.

Not to be outdone, Manuel had just beaten Scott King, Warrenville, S.C., to take the trophy in the division’s Hickory Enclosed Trailer Top Dragster class, running 7.293 seconds at 174.62 over King’s 7.447, 180.55. With a double win on the line, Manuel took the holeshot lead leaving Adcock to run him down with a double breakout win for Adcock running 9.897 on the 9.90 index for his second trophy of the day.

In Top Alcohol Funny Car, Melinda Green-King defeated Mark Billington for her second Southeast divisional win in a row, scoring the win at Atlanta Dragway back in May. Green-King drove her ’10 Mustang to a pass of 5.903 seconds at 244.43 mph.

Taking his first win of the season in Top Alcohol Dragster was Sidnei Frigo of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Frigo qualified No. 3 and outran Artie Allen in round 1 and Rich McPhillips in round 2 before winning over Karen Stalba with a holeshot in the final. Frigo went 5.575 seconds, 254.52 to Hammonton, N.J., resident Stalba with a 5.559, 248.29.

CLERMONT, Ind. – Veteran driver Doug Kalitta has raised several trophies in the winner’s circle on the sacred ground of Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.

However those trophies were earned a couple of decades ago when he was winning races and championships in the USAC Sprint Car Series.  Kalitta raced to victories on the historic multi-purpose motorsports complex’s asphalt oval in 1992 and 1996. It is the same track where motorsports icons like A.J. Foyt, Parnelli Jones, Al Unser, Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon have also scored victories.

While Kalitta takes great pride in his many USAC accomplishments, his focus in motorsports has now changed. These days he wants to etch his name in a different record book, next to the biggest legends of NHRA drag racing who have won the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals, the world’s most prestigious drag race:  Don “The Snake” Prudhomme, Shirley Muldowney, “Big Daddy” Don Garlits, Bob Glidden and Tom “The Mongoose” McEwen.
