Sonny’s Racing Engines Establishes Extreme Pro Stock 3-Second Club
PETERSBURG, VA (July 24, 2009) — According to engine building guru Sonny Leonard, a three-second, eighth-mile pass by a naturally aspirated Extreme Pro Stock (XPS) car deserves recognition. That’s why he’s established the Sonny’s Racing Engines 3-Second Club to reward the first three XPS drivers that accomplish the feat in an official National Guard ADRL qualifying or elimination round.
Each of the “Elite Three,” as Leonard calls them, will receive a monetary award, commemorative plaque and jacket, and a personalized Sonny’s Three-Second Club ring to mark the achievement.
“It’s a way for us to give back to the racers that spend a lot of money and take so much pride in what they do,” Leonard said. “Of course, what money they get they could spend before they get home from the track, but that jacket, that plaque and that ring, they’ll keep those items forever and pass them down to their kids. Becoming a member of the Sonny’s 3-Second Club will be a real source of pride.”
Robert Patrick Jr. set the current Extreme Pro Stock elapsed time record of 4.05 seconds this spring at Cecil, Georgia.
“Fans love to see performance barriers broken and for a naturally aspirated 2,400-pound car to run 3.99 or better is going to be very exciting. I think having a 3-Second Club is going to be good for the Extreme Pro Stock racers, the fans, other sponsors and the ADRL, too,” Leonard said. “I know I’m looking forward to seeing it happen.”
