GLENDORA, Calif. (Jan. 18, 2013) – NHRA has released the 2013 JEGS SPORTSnationals schedule which will feature events at three world class facilities during the coming year. These sportsman focused events will showcase the talents of racers in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and will be held at No Problem Raceway, National Trail Raceway and The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
“We are really excited about the 2013 NHRA season. There are three great JEGS SPORTSnationals events on the schedule again in 2013,” said Scott Woodruff, JEGS director of media and motorsports. “All three events have their own character and personality. If you haven’t been to one of the JEGS SPORTSnationals events you are missing out and owe it to yourself to add one or more to your NHRA racing schedule this year. You will not be disappointed. The events are a lot of fun on and off the track.”
The JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals will celebrate its 10th anniversary at No Problem Raceway; the JEGS Northern SPORTSnationals returns to National Trail Raceway for the ninth time; and the JEGS Pacific SPORTSnationals returns to The Strip at LVMS for the second year.
“We are excited to return to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the JEGS Pacific SPORTSnationals. I know this is something the racers are very excited about,” Woodruff continued. “The staff at the facility has always been great to deal with and we thank them on behalf of all of the NHRA sportsman racers. Having additional time to plan for the JEGS Pacific SPORTSnationals will only make the event more successful on and off the track”
Nitro Generation is a celebration of the families who are involved in the sport and who have made NHRA drag racing one of the most exciting forms of motorsports in the world. One of the most successful families in the NHRA is the Coughlins who have won seven SPORTSnationals including victories at each of the three events. Mike has four wins in six final rounds while Jeg Jr. has two wins and Troy Jr. took the Super Comp title at the JEGS Northern SPORTSnationals in 2011.
It is also a family affair for Ray Connolly and his son Dave who secured wins at two JEGS SPORTSnationals events at National Trail Raceway. Ray won Super Gas at the 2009 event and Dave added the Super Comp win to his impressive resume at the same event in 2010.
Brothers Terry and Gary Emmons have both won events with Terry taking home the Super Stock victory at the JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals in 2011 with the Stock victory going to Gary in 2007.
Series hitters Tommy Phillips and Peter Biondo have each doubled up at JEGS SPORTSnationals events as Phillips took home the Super Comp and Super Gas Cajun SPORTSnationals titles in 2009 and Biondo won both Stock and Super Stock at the Northern SPORTSnationals event in 2005.
Comp, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Sportsman, and Top Dragster will be the featured categories at each of these thrilling races.
