ELIMINATIONS UNDERWAY FOR NHRA JR DRAG RACING LEAGUE EASTERN CONFERENCE FINALS
BRISTOL, Tenn. – Action resumed for day two of the NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League Eastern Conference Finals presented by ViperizerRacing.com at Bristol Dragway with all competitors making a final time trial run and move into round 1 of eliminations. Hundreds of kids, ages 8 to 17, from NHRA member track across the eastern United States and Canada made the trip to thunder valley and are battling for individual and team honors, and a share of the nearly $50,000 in awards. The event kicked off Thursday with an initial time trials and will conclude on Saturday with the crowning of winners in eight age brackets and Jr. Comp, as well as a champion team.
Teams of racers drive half-scale dragsters powered by five-horsepower engines that may reach speeds up to 85 mph. They can cover the eighth-mile track in as quick as 7.90 seconds. Also in competition is the Jr. Comp class for racers 16 years and older, which run as fast as 110 mph in 6.90 seconds.
The first and second place teams at the NHRA Jr. Drag Racing Eastern Conference Finals event will earn a share of the $2,500 team purse, and individual winners will earn $2,500; runners-up will earn $1,250; semifinalists will get $500; and quarterfinalists receive $250.
A number of specialty and performance awards will be given out at the end of Friday’s on track action including the Best Overall Appearing Car, Coolest Car, and Closet to the Dial awards.
