Nostalgia Pro Stock, an exciting new vintage drag racing class will make its debut at the Goodguys 2nd Nostalgia Nationals October 16, 17 & 18 at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The class will also be featured at the Goodguys Friday Night Drags, October 30th at the new ZMAX Dragway. The new class features door cars 1968 through 1978 that were originally intended for NHRA Pro Stock competition.
The cars will be run in two categories. Class I will feature back halved vehicles such as Chevy Camaros, Plymouth Dusters Ford Mustangs etc. 1968 through 1974 vintage. Class II will feature tube chassis and/or short wheelbase vehicles such as Ford Pintos, Chevy Vegas, Plymouth Arrows etc. 1972 through 1978 vintage. The cars will dial into one of five separate indexes including 8.00, 8.50, 9.00, 9.50 and 10.0.
Heading up the new Nostalgia Pro Stock Class is Midwest based promoter Jeff Johnson of Columbus, Ohio. Johnson, who has over 30 years of racing and event promotion experience, is confident the new class will be well received. “There are a lot of these cars out there that are running in brackets or are just parked because they don’t really fit in. Nostalgia Pro Stock will give them a featured class and really bring some excitement. With the success of Nostalgia Super Stock, a Nostalgia Pro Stock class is the next logical progression,” he said.
The Goodguys/VRA is considering adding Nostalgia Pro Stock to be run as an exhibition class at all of their 2010 Midwest vintage drag races. For official rules, entry information or technical questions, contact Jeff Johnson (614) 268-1181 or via e-mail jeffjohnson426@yahoo.com
