MOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 6, 2013) – In 2012 a then unknown 17-year-old racer by the name of Corey Manuel came out of nowhere to claim the IHRA World Championship in Quick Rod at the Summit Racing Equipment Tournament of Champions.

This season, with an extra year of maturity under his belt, Manuel hopes to add to that success by proving he is not just a one-hit wonder and that he can run with the best year in and year out. At Mooresville Manuel got that campaign off to a great start by winning the Quick Rod title at the second of five races on the Division 9 Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour presented by AMSOIL schedule.

Manuel traversed four rounds of competition at Mooresville Dragway ending with a victory over Jamie Farrell to record his second career Pro-Am win. The two competitors produced identical .008 reaction times, but Manuel backed it up on the top end with a 5.708 second pass at 132.63 mph in the 5.70 class while Farrell broke out by -.014.

Other winners from the Mooresville Pro-Am included Jeff Rudisill (Top Sportsman), Rick Mann (Top Dragster), Marvin Dunahoo (Super Stock), Jamie Holston (Stock), Greg Slack (Super Rod), Kevin McLamb (Hot Rod), Noah Strickland (Junior Master), Harris Moss (Junior Advanced) and Wallace Wilson (Junior Beginner).

In a very competitive field of Super Stock and Stock racers, Roanoke, Virginia’s Marvin Duanhoo advanced five rounds in his PFA-1 1977 Ford Mustang Super Stocker culminating with a win over Jim Reynolds in the final. Reynolds lit the red light by -.012 to hand over the win. In Stock Wytheville, Virginia native Jamie Holston drove his I/CM ’80 Malibu through five rounds ending with a breakout victory over Lee Truell.

Finally one of Division 9’s most prolific hitters Greg Slack (Albemarle, N.C.) returned to the winner’s circle in Super Rod with a very close win over Ernie Knight. In Hot Rod Kevin McLamb (Maxton, N.C.) wrapped up the day with a win over a red-lighting Cale Lambert.

Raiders Division racers head to Piedmont Dragway for their next IHRA Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour event June 28-30.
