BAMBERG, ONTARIO (October 31, 2011) He's drag raced a snowmobile and a pickup truck, but Jeff Moser has had his greatest success with dragsters, including a third-place finish in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts Championship Point Award Series Standings for 2011.
"We're really happy with our finish," said the driver of the MoBoyz Top Dragster. "The Stratford race was a real turnaround for us. I just love that race."
Headed up by Wayne Moser, the team attended all Quick 32 Sportsman Series races for the season, and qualified for five. The team won the Top Dragster side in round five of the Grand Bend Labor Day race, losing the event title to eventual Quick 32 Sportsman Series champion Phil Sampson of Granton, Ontario.
In his biggest race of the year, Moser was up against two-time Quick 32 Series Champion Kevin Wicke of Stratford, Ontario in the event final for the Stratford Day race at Grand Bend, taking the victory and recording the only Top Dragster event win of the season.
It was a good year for a team that only joined the series this season, along with fielding a new car.
Moser started racing 15 years ago, eventually racing a dragster with success until 2003, winning titles at Grand Bend and in IHRA competition.
The team returned to the sport in 2011 with a new Phantom Race Cars chassis and a 632-cubic inch Scott Shafiroff Racing Engines powerplant, complete with a Powerglide and nitrous assist.
Moser said he was surprised with the intensity of the Quick 32 Sportsman Series competition.
"I never thought it would take a six to qualify," he said. "Everyone, including us, was really turning up the wick."
Several of Moser's rounds were won by thousandths of a second, including a win over Top Dragster driver Scott Wildgust of Wartburg, Ontario in the Stratford Day event by .0005 seconds.
Moser wanted to thank his team, including crew chief Jake Moore for the successful season. He also thanks wife Melanie for her support, along with sons Jackson and Hunter, his mother Dianne for her newsletter editorials and food preparation, and Amy Moore for her sideline cheering and selling of team apparel.
Thanks also go out to Bast Auto and Tire Centres, Stemmler's Meats, Elmira Auto Supplies LTD, and C & A Krueger Ltd. for their ongoing sponsorship. And a special thanks to Vinny Budano from Shafiroff Race Engines and Carl Spiering from ERD Engine Research & Development. Special regard for Quick 32 Sportsman Series teams willing to help MoBoyz solve their running problems at the start of the season.
Moser said the team plans to return to the action in 2012.
"It's an impressive series with a great group of people and some amazing racing. We plan on being a team to reckon with in 2012."
