FW: Bob Glidden named Grand Marshall of the NHRA Lucas Oil Spring Spectacle of Speed


GLENDORA, Calif. - The most prolific driver in U.S. Nationals history Bob Glidden has been named Grand Marshall for the upcoming NHRA Lucas Oil Spring Spectacle of Speed featuring stars of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis, April 23-25.

The Whiteland, Ind. native who ranks third on NHRA’s all-time win list behind John Force and Warren Johnson is also the winningest driver ever at the Lucas Oil Spring Spectacle of Speed.  Glidden won the inaugural 1968 Indy divisional event  in Stock eliminator, his career first NHRA point race victory.  He then won the Super Stock eliminator in 1971 and a total of 6 event Pro Stock victories from 1973 to 1980.

Glidden won 10 NHRA Pro Stock world championships in 16 years, including five consecutively from 1985 to 1989 and amassed 85 national event victories before retiring in 1997.  He also won 5 North Central Division championships from 1973 to 1980.

The event is the season opener for NHRA’s North Central Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series with over 500 entries from across the country expected.  Time trials and qualifying get underway Friday with final qualifying sessions Saturday and final rounds of competition Sunday.

NHRA and track officials recently announced new promotional activities and industry support that will help grow the event into one of the premier stops on the NHRA North Central Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.”
