National Guard ADRL Announces 2010 Date for Memphis
O’FALLON, MO (June 30, 2009) – True to form in going its own way, the National Guard American Drag Racing League (ADRL) is already confirming the first race date for its 2010 national event tour.
“Why wait when you have good news? Everyone had such a good time a few weeks ago that we want to make sure they mark their calendars now for May 28-29, 2010, and our return to Memphis Motorsports Park (MMP) with the Quarter-Max Memphis Drags III,” National Guard ADRL President and CEO Kenny Nowling said. “Hopefully, we can make attending this event a real Memorial Day weekend tradition for Memphis race fans.”
A two-day crowd of 58,750 passed through the MMP turnstiles for this year’s National Guard ADRL event (May 22-23), including more than 38,200 for Saturday’s twin qualifying sessions followed by elimination rounds in five professional classes of 16 race vehicles each.
Track Vice President and General Manager Jason Rittenberry said it was the largest single-day attendance for drag racing that he has ever seen at the Millington, Tennessee facility. Unfortunately, wet weather cut the event short just before the semi finals for all five classes and the race had to be completed at the series’ next scheduled event two weeks later in Michigan.
“The response we’ve had to the National Guard ADRL has been unlike anything I’ve seen here before,” Rittenberry stated. “Even with the rainout we had people telling us it was the best drag race they’ve ever attended and we’re still receiving positive comments more than a month later. That alone tells me this was a very special event.”
The National Guard ADRL is the world’s leading sanctioning body for eighth-mile drag racing and presents an all-pro show with no filler classes. Current records over the 660-foot race distance are 3.66 seconds and 207.43 mph, both set at Memphis this year by reigning two-time National Guard ADRL Pro Extreme World Champion Jason Scruggs of Saltillo, Mississippi.
“The cars are incredible; the drivers are incredible and the entire ADRL race experience is incredible,” Rittenberry said. “We couldn’t be happier knowing the National Guard ADRL will be back at Memphis Motorsports Park in 2010.”

“I think this speaks volumes about the teams that compete with us. Clearly these guys are hardcore racers as these guys are racing as hard for a championship with no points fund as they were with hundreds of thousands of dollars on the line,” said IHRA Vice President of Racing Operations Skooter Peaco. “Bottom line is that they want to be a champion and that, at its core, is what our sport is supposed to be about.
“For me personally, the big rigs and big budgets are cool, but there is no better group of die-hard competitors out there than the IHRA teams.”
Even more interesting, the IHRA is also coming off of its most competitive race of the season in

Included in the list of victors are five first-time winners and three former champions, one from each class.

July Nitro Jam events packed with extra thrills
As if Top Fuel dragsters, door cars and sportsman racing weren’t enough to keep race fans busy, the three Nitro Jam events in July will have a ton of extras thrown in to help add a little more bang for the buck.
As the IHRA Nitro Jam tour shifts its focus to the north with two races in Canada at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta and Grand Bend Motorplex in Grand Bend, Ontario and one race in Michigan at U.S.
“We love to entertain and that is exactly what we are going to do in the coming month,” said IHRA President Aaron Polburn. “Drag racing is an entertainment business. From the sights, sounds and smells of the nitro-burning Top Fuel dragsters to our always exciting door car classes, we love to keep our fans on the edge of their seat not knowing what they are going to see next.”
Beginning with the first trip into
Along with Top Fuel and Pro Modified classes, the Rocky Mountain Nationals will also feature Nitro Funny Cars, Alcohol Funny Cars, Pro Nostalgia, Pro Stock Motorcycles, Nitro Harleys, wheelstanders and the
The IHRA will stay in
Pro Stock will return to the fold in Grand Bend, while the field of Pro Modifieds will be one of the biggest of the year. Members of the PMRA will hold an extra race in conjunction with the Canadian Nationals as dozens of the worlds best Pro Mods battle for supremacy on the Canadian quarter mile.
Also featured in Grand Bend will be the “King of Canada” match race between Alcohol Funny Car stars Paul Noakes and Rob Atchison, Top Fuel dragsters, Nitro Harleys, the Ballistic Eagle jet motorcycle and the “X-Treme Machine” jet semi which will close out IHRA’s trip through
Two weeks later the Nitro Jam tour will make a short trip over to U.S.
The Northern Nationals will feature the usual batch of IHRA professional and sportsman racing along with a few Fuel Altereds, the “X-Treme Machine” jet semi and the Moser Axle Mania Sportsman Showdown.
With that much action crammed into one month, fans of drag racing and motorsports entertainment alike should find something to enjoy at one of IHRA’s premier Nitro Jam national events.
“The racing on the track is as good as it has ever been and when you throw in extras like jet trucks, jet motorcycles, wheelstanders and some of the other nitro-fueled classes like Nitro Funny Cars and Nitro Harleys you have an event that provides a little something for everyone,” Polburn said. “I love drag racing and I love to entertain and to be able to combine the two into one show really is an event that must be seen to be believed.”

Top Fuel driver Tim Boychuk returns home for Rocky Mountain Nationals

“I remember for the first Rocky Mountain Nationals weekend on Wednesday and Thursday I was out there with a grinder making the track smooth and wondering what the heck I am doing out here. I am an oval racer so what am I doing at a drag strip at midnight in the pouring rain grinding the track,” Boychuk recalled.
While Boychuk’s first trip down a drag strip wasn’t the most exhilarating experience, as it turns out, it wouldn’t be the last time he would make a pass on the two-lane asphalt strip.

Boychuk spent the next few years having all kinds of success in the funny car ranks before finally deciding to step it up a notch early last season and jump into one of the world’s fastest racing machines, a Top Fuel dragster.

“Our drag racing career has started out really well and has continued to grow,” Boychuk said. “It is so surreal because I never expected the success we have had, but it has been wonderful and we are really enjoying it.”
From a track grinder to a Top Fuel dragster, Boychuk’s rise through the drag racing ranks has been an unexpected yet highly successful venture for the
Now, exactly one year after making his IHRA debut, Boychuk will return to his hometown with a ton of momentum and plenty of support for the fifth race on the IHRA Nitro Jam schedule, the Rocky Mountain Nationals located in the heart of
“It is like a dream come true. I can’t believe we are where we are,” Boychuk said. “We are very happy about coming into
And what a moment it would be for the
“That would be the highlight of my career. If I never raced again after that it would be enough,” Boychuk said. “There would simply be nothing better.”
Boychuk almost got his wish at last year’s Rocky Mountain Nationals when he qualified third and took down Terry McMillen en route to a semifinal appearance in his very first IHRA start. Despite a great run – Boychuk’s first trip into the four-second zone – he couldn’t overcome Kevin Jones’ low E.T. of the event at
Jones went on to defeat Bobby Lagana Jr. in the final.
Boychuk followed up his first semifinal run with two first round losses before finally breaking through with his first ever Top Fuel win in only his third start at New England Dragway in September of last year. He followed that up with his second straight win a few weeks later in Rockingham.
This year Boychuk had a bit of a slow start, qualifying in the bottom half of the field at the first two national events while never making it out of the first round.
He began to get things turned around in
With the victory Boychuk leaped from sixth to fourth in the Top Fuel standings and is now just
“The guys are doing an excellent job on the car. The first couple of races we had some gremlins, but we looked after it and got if fixed,” Boychuk said. “The car is working about as good as it can be.”
Now it is off to

From a regional oval racer to now a three-time IHRA national event champion, Boychuk has come a long way from his days making left turns. And none of it, as he will quickly point out, would be possible without the support of many who have helped him over the years.
“We have a pretty good group of people out here supporting us. And we will have even more support for the Rocky Mountain Nationals with media tours, displays and all sorts of neat deals in the days leading up to the race,” Boychuk said. “I look forward to the next couple weeks as we get ready for the biggest race of the year.
“And none of this would be possible without the support of great companies like Tim Horton’s, Crosby Industrial, Red Line Oil, Gates Canada, Chatterson Machine and Tool, Fast Eddie Racewear, Rosenau Transport, Ashton Transport, The Iron Garage, MHK Insurance, Igloo Building Supplies, Nelson Brothers, Blue Steel Chemicals, Redneck Promotions, AFD Racing, Makloc Buildings and Construction, Ron Hodgson Pontiac, Buick, GMC, Paradise RV, Racepak, Ranger Distributors and the many others who support us all over North America.”
The River Cree Resort and Casino Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by Paradise RV will take place July
And you can be sure that of the thousands of fans that annually flock to Castrol Raceway for the IHRA’s biggest race, more than half will be rooting on
