Fans' Top 10 Greatest Moments in NHRA History Unveiled; Voting for No. 1 Begins Today

Only 10 of the Original 60 Moments Remain; Fans can Select the One They Believe is the Greatest via a Dedicated Tab on the NHRA Facebook Page

GLENDORA, Calif. (Sept. 6, 2011) – And then there were 10.

To commemorate its 60th anniversary season, NHRA announced the 60 Greatest Moments in its history back in January and then it asked its fans, throughout the course of the 2011 season, to select the Moment that they collectively felt was the greatest moment in NHRA history.

NHRA fans responded in huge numbers – more than 7.5 million impressions and more than 31,000 fan interactions – to pare the list down first to 20 Greatest Moments and now to a truly memorable Top 10.

As difficult as that must have been for NHRA fans – narrowing the original list of 60 Greatest Moments down to just 10 – consider the challenge that lies ahead for fans in selecting the single Moment that they believe is the greatest moment in NHRA History. How do you pick just one of these 10 remaining Greatest Moments in NHRA History?

Here are the Top 10 Greatest Moments (in chronological order):

• Founding of NHRA (1951)
• Don Garlits makes NHRA's First 200-mph Run (1964)
• Don Garlits debuts the rear-engine dragster — and wins (Pomona, 1971)
• Shirley Muldowney is first Women to Win in Top Fuel (1976)
• Shirley Muldowney is NHRA's First Female World Champ (1977)
• Kenny Bernstein makes NHRA's first 300-mph Run (1992)
• John Force is first to win 100 career races (2002)
• Tony Schumacher's "The Run" (2006)
• Ashley Force Hood is first Female Funny Car Winner (2008)
• John Force Completes Comeback, Wins 15th Championship (2010)

To participate, fans can go to NHRA’s Facebook page, easy to find at Facebook.com/NHRA, and click on the “Vote 4 Greatest Moment” tab. Once there, fans will be instructed to select just one (1) of the 10 Moments and click ‘Submit’ (after submitting their vote, fans will have the chance to enter to win one VIP package or one of five pairs of full-event tickets to the 2012 event of their choice).

Fans will be encouraged to check back often as the Moment with the fewest votes at the conclusion of every one of the first five races in the Countdown playoff will be eliminated. That will leave five Moments still in play entering the Auto Club NHRA Finals.

Voting will close on Wednesday, Nov. 9 and the fans’ selection for the Greatest Moment in NHRA History will be unveiled during pre-race at the Auto Club NHRA Finals on Sunday, Nov. 13.

CLERMONT, Ind. – Eric Dillard raced to his first career win Monday in the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series at the prestigious Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil.

Dillard powered his R2B2 Race Cars ’12 Mustang past runner-up Mike Castellana to a 5.830-second run at 253.99 mph to earn his first win in his first race appearance.

CLERMONT, Ind. – Antron Brown raced to his third Lucas Oil Raceway win Monday as racing came to an end at the prestigious Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil.

Mike Neff, Greg Anderson and Hector Arana Jr. were also winners in their respective categories at the final race of the regular season before the start of the NHRA Countdown to the Championship, the six-race playoffs to determine the world championships.

FIREBIRD SCORES SEVENTH TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

BOISE, Idaho. – The team from Firebird Raceway racked up 63 points this weekend for the NHRA Northwest Division Summit Racing Series Finals scoring their seventh overall Team Championship and a belated birthday present for Firebird Raceway owner Bill New who put out the challenge to his team at last year's champions banquet.

New turned 77 years old last month and challenged his racers to the triple seven a year ago and they came through with a dominate win bettering Woodburn Dragstrip by nine points (round wins) who took second in the team standings with 54 followed by Portland Int'l Raceway with 51 in third.

TROXEL TAKES NO. 1 SPOT IN PRO MOD QUALIFYING AT MAC TOOLS U.S. NATIONALS

CLERMONT, Ind. – Melanie Troxel raced to the No. 1 qualifying position Sunday in the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series at the prestigious Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil.

Troxel came out on the last pass of qualifying and put down an impressive 5.907-second run at 251.25 mph in her ProCare Rx ’53 Corvette to take the top spot in Pro Mod. It’s Troxel’s second No. 1 qualifier of the season.

Troxel moved to the second round of eliminations after she defeated 16th-place qualifier Scott Ray in the first round. She will face Burton Auxier when eliminations continue on Monday.

Compton presented a plaque to Glidden and unveiled the brand new green street sign that is positioned near the starting line.

CLERMONT, Ind. (Sept. 1, 2011) – Drivers who compete in seven NHRA sportsman classes will be eligible to participate in two new sportsman shootout programs sponsored by Moser Engineering, it was announced today by NHRA officials.

NHRA Moser Engineering Sportsman Shootouts will be held in NHRA Div. 3 and NHRA Div. 4 for competitors in Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman starting in the 2012 season.
