Skull Motorsports team back in PMRA competition for 2010 season
Ralph Andreacchi and Tony Piselli plan to make their mark with Corvette Pro Modified
MAPLE, ONTARIO (June 30, 2010) – Other than painting their race car, The Skull Motorsports Team of Ralph Andreacchi and Tony Piselli have only made a few minor changes to their Corvette Pro Modified for this year's Pro Modified Racing Association series.
"We haven't made many changes this season," noted car tuner and former team driver Ralph Andreacchi, who has won PMRA events in the past behind the wheel.
Powered by an Al Billes Racing 526-cubic inch Brad Anderson (BAE) Supercharged Hemi, the engine sits between the frame rails of a Tim McAmis Race Car chassis. Behind the engine is a Bruno's Automotive Products Lenco transmission, and the car is fuelled with an Al Billes Racing fuel system. A Kobelco K-11 supercharger, which Andreacchi said is running a 20 percent overdrive as per NHRA specs, sits atop the engine.
With Piselli driving and Andreacchi as head tuner, Eric, Frank, Jonathon and Joseph make up the rest of the Skull team. Sponsors include Al Billes Racing, Desserts Plus, J.E. Construction & Haulage, and Paul Wolf Lighting & Electric Supply Ltd.
Andreacchi noted that he is thankful to the help and guidance of Pro Modified guru Al Billes, who has helped the team immensely over the years.
He also noted that with new teams for 2010 and veteran teams upgrading their efforts, competition in the PMRA is going to be stronger.
"It's going to be a tough series," he said. "We will have to step it up. Everybody will be on their game this year."
Team driver Tony Piselli concurred with Andreacchi.
"The competition is fierce, everybody can run hard, and we can't take anyone lightly," said Piselli. "I will be on my game at every hit. We just want to take it one pass at a time and go from there. We have all the right stuff to make strides, we just need to line it all up and send it."
The team will take part in the next PMRA event, the Canadian Nitro Nationals and AHRA Reunion Tour on the Cayuga Dragway at Toronto Motorsports Park July 2-4.
With an eye on providing a diversified and entertaining program of racing, Toronto Motorsports Park management will present competition in the sport's top classes, Top Fuel Dragster and Nitro Funny Car, PMRA Pro Modifieds as well as Jet Car action, and a round in the Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series.
With close to 8000 horsepower on tap, cars in the Top Fuel Dragster and Nitro Funny Car divisions are the fastest-accelerating cars on the planet, and are rarely seen in Canada, but Toronto Motorsports Park will present some of the best in the sport, including those of former International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) champions Spencer Massey, Del Cox and Dale Creasy.
Canadians will be well-represented as Todd Paton and Fred Farndon will gear up and make their Top Fuel passes down the Cayuga quarter-mile.
The Canadian Nitro Nationals action gets underway Friday July 2 with a qualifying round in the PMRA and Quick 32 Sportsman Series, plus the first of several runs by the 300-mph Jet Dragsters of Black Ice and Terminator, starting at 8:00 pm.
Qualifying in both the PMRA and Quick 32 takes place Saturday morning and afternoon, and then the nitro cars take to the track in two sessions, at 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm.
Elimination rounds will be held for Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the third of four PMRA qualifiers will take place. Fans will then be treated to a fireworks display and live music on the TMP grounds.
The Top Fuel Dragsters return Sunday at 1:00 pm for more match-ups, and eliminations will take place in all classes throughout the day, with final rounds scheduled for 5:00 pm.
Ticket prices for this must-see event range from $20 on the Friday for an adult to $40 on the Saturday, $30 on Sunday with a weekend pass available for $80. Youth and children passes are also available, as well as weekend camping.

Double events mark next Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts
AHRA Canadian Nitro Nationals scene of rounds three and four this weekend at TMP
CAYUGA, ONTARIO (June 29, 2010) – It will be double the action, double the points, and double the purse money this weekend as the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts will hold two complete events during the AHRA Canadian Nitro Nationals at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario.
Rounds three and four of the six-race 2010 Quick 32 Sportsman Series season will be held at the fabled Kohler Road track, featuring the best in Top Dragster and Top Sportsman racing.
And along with two complete races, the final rounds in the postponed Grand Bend Motorplex race will take place at Cayuga Friday, July 2. Both the Top Dragster final and the Top Sportsman final will be held, along with the traditional Top Dragster -versus- Top Sportsman match-up to determine the event champion.
The second race in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series was close to completion at the Grand Bend Motorplex last weekend, but rain delayed the finals.
Going into the Top Dragster final are two teams that have never been to victory lane. Scott Wildgust of Wartburg, Ontario, who formerly drove a Top Sportsman car in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, will be going up against Melanie Simmons of Orangeville, Ontario, who has produced some stout numbers so far this year with her new supercharged dragster. Wildgust qualified second for this event, with Simmons right behind in third.
On the Top Sportsman side, the 1955 Chevrolet of Steve Parkhurst of Belleville, Ontario is matched with reigning Quick 32 Sportsman Series champion Kevin Wicke of Stratford, Ontario and his 2006 Dodge Stratus. Wicke qualified number two for the 16-car Top Sportsman field, and Parkhurst nailed down the number three spot.
And like the Top Dragster racers, neither of these teams has been to the winner's circle in Quick 32 Sportsman Series competition.
While these four will do battle Friday evening, one of three qualifying sessions will also be held for the first full event of the weekend. Two more qualifiers will be held Saturday, starting at 11:00 am, with round one of eliminations scheduled to take place at 2:00 pm.
Starting at 10:30 am Sunday, July 4, round one of qualifying for the second complete Quick 32 Sportsman Series race will begin. There will be one more qualifying round before the dragsters and doorcars begin their second set of eliminations over the long weekend at 1:00 pm.

Quick 32 Sportsman Series rained out at Grand Bend
Four teams left - final eliminations to be decided at upcoming Cayuga Dragway race
GRAND BEND, ONTARIO (June 27, 2010) – Although a winner has yet to be decided in round two of the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts, one thing is certain: the victor will be a competitor who has not won an event in the popular drag race series.
Rain hampered the final two rounds of the race, held during the RPM Magazine Family PowerFest & Media Weekend at the Grand Bend Motorplex June 25-27.
The Quick 32 Sportsman Series is divided into two classes, the Top Dragster, and the Top Sportsman. Competitors from each class race among themselves, then the Top Dragster entry and the Top Sportsman entry do battle to decide the overall event winner.
With the Top Dragster final still not complete, Melanie Simmons of Orillia, Ontario will go up against Scott Wildgust of Wartburg, Ontario. Simmons, who qualified number three in the 16-car field with her now-supercharged entry, has never gone this many rounds in Quick 32 Sportsman Series racing. She will face Wildgust, a former Top Sportsman racer who qualified second.
Leading the Top Dragster qualifying was Michael Hinbest of Orangeville, Ontario, who posted a 6.664-second, 212.01 mph pass, but was defeated by Simmons in the semi-final round.
On the Top Sportsman side, reigning Quick 32 Sportsman Series Point Award Series Champion and number two qualifier Kevin Wicke of Stratford, Ontario, will face off against Steve Parkhurst of Belleville, Ontario for top honors. Wicke, who drives a 2006 Dodge Stratus, will meet up with the 1955 Chevrolet of Parkhurst.
Qualifying number one in the Top Sportsman class was Spencer Hyde of Stratford, Ontario in his 2007 Chevy Cobalt with a 6.933-second, 195.95-mph lap, but he was eliminated in first round action.
None of the four finalists have been to the winner's circle in Quick 32 Sportsman Series racing. The final rounds are scheduled to be held Friday, July 2 during the Canadian Nitro Nationals on the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario.
In Pro Modified at the RPM Magazine Family PowerFest & Media Weekend at the Grand Bend Motorplex, Mike Stawicki of Medina, New York, driving the G-Force Race Cars entry defeated Paul Noakes of London, Ontario in the final round.
There will be two rounds of Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts racing over the weekend, with the third and fourth races of the year.
With an eye on providing a diversified and entertaining program of racing, Toronto Motorsports Park management will present competition in the sport's top classes, Top Fuel Dragster and Nitro Funny Car, as well as Jet Car action, and a round in the Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series.
