Sydney Delivers A Lot Of Shake And Bake Nitro Champs Action!

Sydney Delivers A Lot Of Shake And Bake Nitro Champs Action!

Some of the most spectacular action seen in Sydney Dragway history was the tale of the tape with ANDRA Pro Series Qualifying action completed tonight, in front of a large and appreciative crowd.

The very sticky startline conditions had competitors from several categories wrestling with getting the wheelspeed up and taming the horsepower in the cool but pleasant conditions on hand.

Top Fuel delivered some furious action, with Darren Morgan delivering a superb 4.66 second pass at over 520kmh.

“I think several teams out there underestimated how good the conditions were and we delivered, however we could have run even better,” explained Morgan crew chief Ben Patterson.

If this event is the Nitro Champs for Top Fuel, it must be the Tyre Shake nationals for the Top Doorslammer stampede, after some of the most breathtaking, heart-in-your-mouth action ever seen in Sydney from the category.

Robin Judd was the lone competitor to deliver on usual potential – producing a 5.84 second effort.

However many teams admitted great challenges in getting the right startline wheelspeed, which meant many teams hiked the front wheels, and several instances of wicked tyreshake.

“The track was just too good for us tonight,” recounted Maurice Fabietti. “We just could not get a clean leave from the traction off the startline.”

But Fabietti oozed raceday potential with a stunning 248.29 miles per hour (400kmh) finish line surge to currently nab the top Speed Pro Series points.

Gary Phillips blasted to the top of the Top Alcohol tree with a super strong 5.62 and carries nice top end Speed into Race Day Sunday.

“The Funny Car is in great shape to really contend and hunt down another Pro Series Championship,” winked Phillips.

Chris Matheson set the high mark in Top Bike, however Jay Upton nips at his heels.

In terms of delivering this weekend in Sydney so far, Pro Stock has done it all and with 16-car eliminations tomorrow, you cannot miss their action, from 10:30am!

Andrew Badcock heads a quality Pro Stock Motorcyle field, heading into final Race Day Action – SUNDAY!
